[history]
As if Maryland Democratic politicians didn't have enough to worry about, with Senate President Mike Miller's ethical problems, a redistricting nightmare and Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's faltering gubernatorial campaign, they now have an even bigger problem: the increasingly bitter feud between Comptroller and ex-Gov. William Donald Schaefer and current Gov. Parris Glendening. With the primary just two days away, the Schaefer-Glendening feud has become the political talk of the state.

We may be witnessing the beginning of the end of one-party rule in Maryland.Wishful thinking, I'm afraid.

At least Glendingaling and his main squeeze will now fade from the limelight. Some consolation.

Maybe we see this next in California!

As a resident of the People's Republic of Maryland, I agree.
Widespread incompetence, waste and corruption have always been the hallmark of Democrat machine politics and is consistently tolerated by the majority Democrat constituencies everywhere it exists. I cite the District of Columbia next door as only one of many examples of Democrat "Banana Republics".

Agreed. Even if Ehrlich wins, he brings noone into the legislature with him; it will still be overwhelmingly Dem. Dems are already looking good to pick up 2 Congressional seats, and if the wingnuts boot Gilchrest in the primary, Dems could be looking at a gain of 3! That's half of what they need to take over the House. Nobody gives a rat's patoot about Schaefer and Glendening; they're yesterday's news.

Hopefully MD will have a Republican majority after this election, at least we can hope anyway. I personally think Glendenning just made the biggest mistake of his political career, not the first mind you, but the biggest. Schaefer has the highest "Well liked" ranking of any Democrat or Republican in this state, across all colors, religions and Parties. He supported Regan and Both Bush's, he is what I would term a true Conservative Democrat. And a heck of a personable fellow. One of the few politicians that says what he means and means what he says.

Mr. Schaefer, 80, has referred to women as "little girls" and blacks as "afros." One prominent black legislator, Del. Howard Rawlings of Baltimore, "termed the anti-Schaefer ad "a new low in politics." Mrs. Townsend said the ad was "wrong" and "didn't depict the William Donald Schaefer I know." So these Democrats are defending Schaefer's use of the terms "afros" and "little girls." How do you think they'd react if a Republican had used the same language? </rhetorical question>

Dems are already looking good to pick up 2 Congressional seats, and if the wingnuts boot Gilchrest in the primary, Dems could be looking at a gain of 3! One of the seats the Democrats are supposed to pick up is held by a popular strong incumbent. If Morella doesn't have the edge, it will be competitive. The other seat is open between a former representative and the Balt Co Exec. The district, while new, is currently held by Ehrlich. I see no reason to believe it will not be competitive. As for the 1st, you're off your rocker. Democrats have no chance of winning there, even if the 'wingnuts' boot Gilchrest. Wingnuts is a term more expected from DemUnderground or an AOL chatroom. Why does it appeal to you? Gilchrest is a liberal, and the district is safe enough to replace him with a conservative without risk.

Of course Democrat implosion is always welcome.

Yes, incompetence, waste, and corruption are hallmarks of the Democrat Party.

But Glendening appears to be helping Erlich get elected. His negative ads are causing problems even for The Washington Post to talk positively about KKT.

The democraps could run Caligula or his horse against the George Washington and Jesus ticket in Maryland and
still win.
The bastards have an illegal vote-manufacturing machine in Baltimore that is probably the envy of Chicago. The most disgusting facet of this entire democrap fake vote machine is that this is a truly national scandal. The 2d most disgusting facet is that the RNC under the Bushites has done NOTHING to address it.
The best true news story for the next election would be for a camera crew to follow one van-full of voters from urban church hall, to precinct after precinct, in Philadelphia or Baltimore, or Milwaukee, or Chicago. Then to use computer analysis to see how many absentee ballots the same people generated, and then to see how many other times these people were voted where they were needed without the tiresome necessity of actually showing up.
I await the words of ONE (1) Uno, Ein, I, big-time Republican who will step up and lambast the democraps for the massive frauds of the 2000 campaign. The "Al Gore Popular Vote Victory" story was sold to the nation by a conniving media without a peep of protest from our country-club wimp leadership. Don't count the moron-Kennedy out until the polls are closed and the votes counted in Baltimore.
New trick up the Baltimore sleeve? Take the above precautions for victory and pour salsa over it. Illegal Mexicans are proving a true democrap asset.

Forgive my long silence and rhetorical lapses, Flashy.
I am recovering from apoplexy caused by what I consider purposeful misinterpretation of some remarks I made to Dr. Brown concerning the old place's landscaping.
I suggested planting Pachysandra around the house. By the time a PC Housemaster was done, a Pakistani was Lord Mayor of Manchester.
To: Donald Stone
I wonder if there's any possibility they could be driving Schaefer out of the DemocRATic Party.
To: Francohio
With the U.S. Attorney already investigating KKT on two fronts, I wonder how bold the Dems will be this time with their vote fraud. Seems to me it got much worse in '94, when it was needed to steal the governorship. Is it any coincidence that that was early in the Clinton administration, when the U.S. Attorney could be counted on not to investigate?

Wishful thinking, I'm afraid.
I agree. Having lived in Annapolis for a few years, it's hard to conceive of a less conservative state.

Schaefer is 80 years old,I wouldn't think he is much of anything but a spoiler for anyone he doesn't want to be in office.
Md. Attorney General, Curran must be getting close to 80,and he has been the AG for 20 years, the Maryland political machinery is so firmly entrenched I don't think the Republicans will get out of square one.
Miller has already been absolved of any criminal wrongdoing by Montanarelli, so Miller is home free. An ethics investigation in Maryland amounts to zip !!!!!!
