There are a lot of third party voters.

Actually, thre aren't. There are a lot of independents who vote for one of the two major parties. The number of Americans affiliated with any third party is less than 1% of the total population.

Multiple party countries, like Italy, are disasters.

I include independents in the third parties. They will just as easily vote for a Perot or Ventura.
