This week, as we are about to observe America's first "Patriot Day", the anniversary of 911, we wanted to invite you to share your thoughts, prayers, graphics, and remembrances with us on our thread.

There will be no new FReeper profiles as we continue this thread throughout the end of the week.

We are so pleased to have one of FR's Finest Writers present the tribute for this week. No one can express more eloquently the way we all felt on that unbelievable day.

John was profiled as one of our Finest on Friday, July 12, 2002. He truly is. Thank you for all you do, John, and for today's essay that will be one we'll remember forever.

Never Forget!

On that fateful day I was in Copenhagen, Denmark visiting family. We watched it live on TV. Everyone was in shock.

Thank you for your post. At church on Sunday, we sang My Country 'Tis of Thee. There was much sniffling.

My prayer is especially for the families who have lost loved ones. Their sacrifices have been greatest. I pray for them that God will show them His love.

I will be spending Wednesday at the chapel, with a lighted candle. Then I will go see if I can give blood somewhere. I was sick at the time of 9-11, and did not think it wise to give blood. I will now.

I was only far far away, but they hit me too. I was stunned. It felt surreal to go about the day as if nothing had happened...not when I had spent that morning glued to the television in deep terror that the White House and The Capitol would be struck as well...and hearing reports come in that THAT would have been a sure possibility were it not for the bravery of Flight 93.

And when it was announced that Barbara Olsen was on the flight that struck the Pentagon, THAT was when I began to cry.

I met her a few years back when she came to Houston to promote her first book, 'Hell To Pay." I was much too shy to say anything of intelligence other than "I really liked your book, thank you for writing it, I'd like to give this second copy to my father." We now both possess a very precious thing. But I will always remember her smiling and talking with me and others and being completely approachable and beautiful and someone I would have really like to get to know better.

May she rest in peace. And God bless her husband.

God Bless everyone who was there that day and helped survivors live through it, who went to rescue those who couldnt escape, and did not return themselves.

I did not understand bravery or heroism or valor or what being an American was until September 11.

On Sept. 11, 2001, FR distinguished itself! Not only were we able to communicate throughout this horrible day, but the forum took the heavy traffic and remained running. Personally, I felt a small sense of safety being able to get the information and fellowship on that day, HERE, when the more well-known news sites were crashing under the weight of frantic accessing.

This profile is sincerely appreciated today, and this week. Thank you for the link to that day. Reading it will certainly bring back the memories, emotions, and well-founded rage on that day. Indeed, the rage needs to stay keen and NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

Tears come to my eyes as I remember.

But the sadness needs to be followed by grim determination to fight the evildoers with every ounce of our energy, strength and resolution.
