MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- The Philippines is intensifying security after a suspected al-Qaida member reportedly revealed a new plot to carry out attacks in the country, Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes said Tuesday.
Mohammed Mansour Jabarah, a Canadian arrested because of alleged links to al-Qaida, reportedly told U.S. interrogators the terror group has plotted to attack unspecified targets in the Philippines, Reyes told The Associated Press.

Thanks for the update.
Since I lived in the Philippines for 5 1/2 years I like to hear the latest on them.

Good morning.
I've never posted my own thread, as I don't know what's acceptable, nor how to even get one started.
Anyway, I received the following email this morning, from my mother in Texas:
"Yesterday morning, about 5am, someone broke into a building here on Hwy. 29
West, near Seward Junction. The company sells ammonium nitrate - the
explosive used by the local rock quarries. The FBI got called in by the
Williamson County Sheriff's Department. The owners had come in and found
that 330 lbs. were missing along with all of the forms and paperwork
necessary to transport the stuff across state lines.
Mom"
In Florida, it seems to me that I am hearing little stories like these all the time. In and of themselves, they might appear to be nada, (and maybe they are in actuality) but clump them all together, and maybe something else is going on, that even the less cynical among us would easily recognize.
I chose to ask here since this thread came up in the search for "homeland security."
I appreciate your comments...

Hmmm. The thing is for me- it's an email. In today's day and age, an email like that is basically just a
meme- propagating under its own power- practically like a virus. I guess that's a fairly apt description for a meme in the first place- an idea virus. Who knows where it came from and how many times it's mutated since it originated?
As far as posting an email as the topic of a thread- I've seen it done before, although, I myself have never done it. I think I've posted two vanities in my time on Free Republic. I, personally, wouldn't post an email as the core subject for a thread because it's inverifiable and therefore pointless to speculate about. If it's true, fair enough, but if it's not, all the time you spend pondering it is totally wasted.
I think America is vast and has a huge population. There are probably any number of absolutely incredible things that happen across our country every single day that would be the news for much smaller nations. I would imagine there's enough incidents out there like this to keep a man busy for the rest of his days chasing 'em all down. Me, I only have so much time, so I devote it to news that can be substantiated so I can maximize my little time I can devote to such things.
Sorry it took me so long to reply- it's been a long day! ;-)
