The Russian left had a saying prior to the Bolshevik coup - "There are no enemies on the left". Thus the most vicious and brutal elements, i.e. the Bolsheviks, managed to take control of the situation.

Mugabe is "Comrade Mugabe" back home. He's imitating Stalin in starving his people into submission. But the American left apparently feels there are no enemies on the left either. Thus a vicious, brutal dictator like Mugabe can be feted so long as he is "socialist".
