I was just out driving by the Oakland Airport and I saw a huge fire with billowing clouds of smoke. The location seemed to be the hills above the Oakland Colliseeum in South East Oakland. Approximately

It's the red-hot Oakland Athletics, baby!...
Seriously, though, I hope it's not a repeat of the Oakland hills fire from -- what? -- about ten years ago. It was the same time of year.

I too hope it's not a repeat fire. That last one was awful. Also hope it's not windy there........

I saw those fires from afar. While at a concert. When leaving after the concert, the night skies were orange and even flickering. It was a huge fire, one that I won't ever forget seeing from far away, but realizing if it could light up the night sky like that, it had to be HUGE.
Bad year for fires. The winter will be interesting with all that ground cover gone in so many States. I pray we don't see massive mud slides.

I noticed the cloud of smoke about 10 min ago and grabbed a camera, here is the view from SF looking across the bay:

Good, concise report. Hope they get it knocked down.

Thanks for the link to the story. Guess it's not too bad. Not too good, either. No loss of life, apparently. Thank God!
Now all we need is a train wreck for someone to blame this all on.

I believe 25 people died in the big fire there several years ago. I didn't live in this area at the time. Scars from the fire are still visible from the freeway.

Looks like a very good reason not to live in the Oakland Hills. History repeats itself.

Great shots. That's what FR needs more of -- pictures of the San Francisco Bay! Feel free to post any time. (Remember Fleet Week in about 3 weeks -- we especially want pics of the Blue Angels.)

That won't be too difficult... They usually park an aircraft carrier right in front of the pier, and the Blue Angles are all over the city.

This is far fetched but wouldn't it be a good distraction to draw attention to the fire if you were a terrorist..Ie set the fire...hit someting else..
To: Odyssey-x
ABC radio news just said it was at five alarms with two houses burning/burned and ~100 homes evacuated...

Yea? So? I was driving to school today, and saw a dead dog on the side of the road.........

Thanks for the pics. Hope they get it under control soon.

I worry about the possibility of massive mud slides too. Even if they wind up being not too much worse than usual, the soil erosion is still going to be devastating.
