Foiled Again
It was released for publication today that the GSS had intercepted a shipment of combat materials bound for the Palestinian Authority two months ago. The shipment, which originated in Taiwan in June of this year, was marked "Toys," and was sent by a Moslem charity organization to an Arab resident of Khan Yunis, Gaza. On the way, the ship stopped in an unnamed Arab country that has diplomatic ties with Israel, where the shipment was apparently switched. When it arrived at Israel's Ashdod port, where Israeli authorities confiscated it, it contained hundreds of kilograms of weapons, ammunition, telescopic sights and night-vision equipment. The label "Toys" was not entirely inaccurate, as the shipment also contained some toy lighters featuring likenesses of the World Trade Center and Bin-Laden's head.
Policemen in Ramle yesterday arrested three Arabs suspected of operating an identity card forgery operation. Hundreds of fake Israeli ID cards and the equipment used to make them, including a laminating machine, were found during searches of their homes. Police report that the men sold the cards for 2,000-4,000 shekels each. ID cards enable non-citizen Arabs easy access to Jewish areas.
