Reno May Challenge Florida's Botched Primary Returns
New Touch-Screen System Chewed Up Ballots

MIAMI -- Former Attorney General Janet Reno fell behind political newcomer Bill McBride in the Democratic race for Florida governor Tuesday.

Hundreds left the polls without voting because of problems with the state's new elections system.

The Democratic nominee will face Republican Gov. Jeb Bush this fall.

Florida's first big test of its new voting system since the 2000 presidential election debacle turned sour as soon as polls opened. Ballots were chewed up in the new touchscreen voting system, some polling stations opened late and hundreds of would-be voters were turned away.

Bush ordered polls statewide to stay open an additional two hours. Problems were reported in 14 counties, including six of the seven that were sued after the 2000 vote. In Union County, officials counted every ballot by hand after the optical-scan system showed that every vote cast was for a Republican candidate.

Reno and McBride both said they supported Bush's move to add more voting time. But Reno's campaign is already talking about possibly challenging the results.

Boy this will be great. Reno who was blown away can undermine McBride and distract him while he tries to campaign against Jeb Bush.

Janet Reno, the Al Gore of 2002. The result will be the same.

"Reno who was blown away can undermine McBride and distract him while he tries to campaign against Jeb Bush."

Never thought of it that way until now. Thanks for giving me a good night's sleep.

Oh please, please challenge the results, Ms. Reno. Do this little thing for me, and I promise I'll stop handing you paint cans to shake up.

Isn't it shocking that the same counties that had the problems with hanging chads etc., now have problems with machines. Its real simple, if Democrats can't cheat and win, then it doesn't work.

Here is the headling at PMSNBC: Bowles wins; Reno trails in Florida

Final polls before the primary showed Reno locked in a dead heat with McBride. Reno's collapse in the polls was startling. In June, she led by nearly 30 percentage points.

"People talk about peaking too soon. Well, Reno peaked on the day she announced [her candidacy] six months ago," Florida pollster Jim Kane told MSNBC.com. "She had no campaign plan at all. It was all centered around the cult of personality."

"People ask me what happened to her: Is it Elian? Is it Waco? Is it her health? Is she too liberal? Is it the Clinton baggage? It's all of those," Kane said.

Despite Reno's swoon in the polls, Kane said there were three groups she did well with who may yet rescue her on Tuesday: older voters, people in the Miami-Broward-Palm Beach area and African-American voters, who make up about 15 percent of the Democratic primary electorate.

**********************************
The latest polls I have seen show that McBride is ahead 50% to 38%, but several counties (the ones expected to go for Janet Reno) still haven't reported their results. Why are some areas of Florida so incompetent when it comes to voting???

ROTFL!!!

I was saying on earlier threads that if she lost this would happen! Gore set a precedent with his unlawful bogus recounts and the rest will be history! All RAts will do this now!
Too funny! They couldn't punch a hole in the right place and now they can't touch a screen either? I did hear though that if the machines didn't work, they could write in their votes. What? Pencil leads broken too? What is the deal with Florida voters? Or is it just more Soreloserwoman?

Because they're mostly populated by transplants.
