Kennedy's Dog Leaps on Worker
Washington Post ^ | September 11, 2002 | Lloyd Grove

With all the dire terrorist warnings coming from the homeland security experts -- who yesterday issued a Code Orange alert on the eve of the anniversary of 9/11 -- nerves on Capitol Hill were understandably frayed.

Even Splash, Sen. Ted Kennedy's normally placid Portuguese water dog, was out of sorts.

About 5 p.m. yesterday, as the Massachusetts Democrat sat in the Russell Building rotunda being interviewed by Boston television reporter Ryan Ruggiero about last year's terrorist attacks, Splash barked and jumped on a passing Senate electrician who had arrived to fix a power problem in the building. We hear that the surprised worker received a scratch on his right arm, and a Kennedy staffer promptly gave Splash a disciplinary whack and removed him while the senator apologized. The dog was not on a leash.

"Senator Kennedy is taking this very seriously and is very sorry about it," Kennedy spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter told us. "He apologized profusely to the worker and is going to keep Splash on a tighter leash. Anybody who knows Splash knows that this is very out of character for him."

We hear that a Capitol physician determined that the unidentified worker's abrasions were not serious, though Capitol Police investigators were preparing a report on the incident. It was unclear yesterday whether Splash will be back on the Hill anytime soon.

Hmmmmmm, Teddy Kennedy has a Portuguese water dog named Splash.

He's not very bright, to be sure, but that's stupid even for him.

Teddy has a dog named "splash?" One would not think that he was capable of such irony, how ever ghoulish it may in this case.

"Teddy Kennedy has a Portuguese water dog named Splash."

Well, I guess it was better than "Buick" or "Mary Jo".

Nah, they got it right. The dog, "Splash", (I love that name) probably was loaded and horny and just trying to hi-jack a ride to Chappaquiddick in an Oldsmobile. If that dog gains a hundred pounds, he could run for senator in Massachusetts and win.

How fitting for Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy to name his dog Splash.

Even Splash, Sen. Ted Kennedy's normally placid Portuguese water dog...

"John Farrar, the rescue diver who examined the Chappaquiddick accident scene, was convinced that Mary Jo Kopechne had not only survived the crash, but had also lived for some time by breathing a pocket of trapped air. Farrar did not believe that she had drowned, but instead had died by asphyxiation as the oxygen in the air she was breathing was used up and replaced with carbon dioxide. "She was alive, easily an hour, maybe two," he said."

What an idiot.

The Kennedy's have always taken their dogs to work. G. Gordon Liddy is fond of re-telling a story that Bobby Kennedy, then the US Attorney General, would walk his dog in the hallway of the Justice Department making him crap in front of J. Edgar Hoover's office door.

I'm not happy about it either, but the voters of New York elected her as their senator so we can't keep her out of there.

Perhaps someone could enforce the leash law though...
