I have to ask the question: given our heightened state of alert, and even more so, the fact that airline passengers will no longer take any s___ from knife-wielding or box-cutter-holding ragheads, are the terrorists that stupid to think they can get away with another airline incident?

This is not much more information, but it is from the KHOU website.
HOUSTON (KHOU) -- Air Marshalls contacted the Houston Police Department after they found a folding knife on Dallas/Nashville bound American Airlines flight 1702. .
The FBI has reportedly heard that there are two people in custody from the flight.

I live just a few miles from Ellington Field which 20 miles south of Houston.
Usually all I see or hear are the small trainer jets the astronauts keep up their hours in.
But starting yesterday afternoon and all night, I could hear the big boys screaming overhead keeping an eye on the city and the coast.
Both a bit un-nerving and comforting at the same time.
To: OC_Steve
Damn glad for the air marshalls...maybe they work when they work...guess the guy was "brandishing" the knife...because I doubt the air marshalls frisk people during the flight...
To: Constitution Day
I think this is a different incident than the one you have linked to.

HOUSTON (AP) Air Force fighters escorted an American Airlines flight to Houston after a disturbance was reported on board Wednesday, officials said.
The airplane was on the ground at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
''We seem to have some sort of situation,'' Houston Airport System spokesman Ernie DeSoto said. ''It is surrounded. I really don't have many details at this moment.''
DeSoto said U.S. air marshals were aboard the flight, which reportedly had been headed to Dallas.
Representatives of American, the FBI and the Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

Fed Marshalls still on plane...plane on tarmac...surrounded and ready to be stormed... I have a feeling this is a copycat/lone nutcase situation. Somebody capitalizing on the big stage of 9/11, perhaps? I don't see trained terrorists trying to hijack a plane using only one man with a knife. Not only that, but they seem to change their targets and methodology from one attack to the next. Waiting to hear his name and nationality...

Hmmm. George Bush intercontinental. Would I want that name tied to some infamous act for all of history if I was an enemy combatant? I still feel nuke plants should come equipped with humvees and stingers. --Looks nervously towards South Texas Nuclear Project(STNP) in Palacios TX.

Every incident is going to be a copycat because the Government is in cover up mode. Don't want to frighten the sheeple now do we?

If the FBI has said this was an attempted hijacking where is the news? None of the major news networks are carrying it.

FBI reports attempted highjacking on American Airlines jet at Bush Intercontinental
09/11/2002
HOUSTON (KHOU) -- An American Airlines flight was escorted Wednesday afternoon by F-16's to Bush Intercontinental Airport after a disturbance was reported on board.
Air Marshalls contacted the Houston Police Department after they found a folding knife on Dallas/Nashville bound American Airlines flight 1702.
The four person crew of the 50 passenger Fokker 100 jet turned around 42 minutes into the flight.
"We seem to have some sort of situation," Houston Airport System spokesman Ernie DeSoto said around 1:30 p.m. CDT. "It is on the ground. It is surrounded. I really don't have many details at this moment."
One man had an unidentified object in his hand. Marshalls felt uncomfortable and insisted on returning to Houston.
Stay tuned to khou.com and Channel 11 for more information on this incident.

American Air Jet Diverted in 'Security Incident' Wed Sep 11, 3:22 PM ET
HOUSTON (Reuters) - An American Airlines jet bound for Dallas returned to Houston Intercontinental Airport shortly after takeoff on Wednesday because of what an airlines spokesman called "a security incident" on board.
An FBI spokesman told a Houston television station there may have been an attempted hijacking on board.
"It appears to be an attempted hijacking, but I do not have that confirmed," FBI agent Robert Doguim told KHOU-TV in Houston.
News reports said passengers reported seeing two men in the cabin with what appeared to be a weapon, possibly a folding knife. The reports said the men were taken into custody.
American spokesman Gus Whitcomb told Reuters that two U.S. air marshals were on the flight, as were four crew members and 50 passengers.

This account says that two men were seen in the cockpit wielding a knife.
Um, it says cabin, not cockpit.

FBI agent Robert Doguim What do you bet that Agent Doguim will be spending the rest of his career at a desk with a yellow highlighting marker going through telephone bills in white collar crime cases?
