WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Ramzi Binalshibh, wanted by Germany for allegedly planning and helping to carry out the Sept. 11 hijacked plane attacks on the United States, has been captured in Pakistan, U.S. officials said on Friday.
His capture came just days after a journalist with al-Jazeera Arabic satellite television said he interviewed Binalshibh in Pakistan. Binalshibh and another key al Qaeda member reportedly affirmed that Osama bin Laden ( news - web sites) was personally involved in planning the Sept. 11 attacks that killed about 3,000 people.
U.S. officials have said the Yemeni national, who was refused a visa into the United States at least four times before Sept. 11, wanted to join the 19 hijackers involved in last year's attack.

This is a feather in Musharaf's cap. He wants these al-Qaeda rats out of his country as badly as we do as they are another potential challenge to him.
The Middle East is a nest of snakes.

toss him in a cell with pigs ... don't let the Germans have him ... will they treat him as an "enemy combatant" since he wasn't captured in the USA? ... if so, and it appears he was involved, then military trial is called for IMHO ...

Yup, let's keep getting 'em one at a time. More if we can, but this war is not over. WE have to keep shining lights on the cockroach nests.

And now he gets his wish. Congrats for winning the US death penalty. Its a prize well deserved.
PS in case you're not keeping score at home. The only way bin Laden top associates are being scooped up like this is if bin Laden is dead and the former associates are now having to fend for themselves outside of familiar networks.

It amazes me that he gets anything done when a middle way of doing nothing is what one would have predicted. Any step forward is done at great personal cost to himself and all agents involved. Musharaf figures that if he gets enough of the Al-Queda, then each step will be easier and soon he'll have them on the ropes.

Once the Germans sentence him to 2 1/2 years with time off, he can come here and get the death penalty.

I've been thinking the same thing: Al-jazeeri originates in Qatar, and we are building airstrips there. Its about time we commandeered their air as well, and followed every communication that goes in and out of there.
It even netted us a master of disguise like this reptile. Lucky we found him, seeing that he was disguised as a table in an Italian restaurant.
