RIYADH, 17 September The US Postal Service has announced that the Eid postage stamp will be reissued on Oct. 10 at the current first-class rate of 37 cents. The stamp was priced at 34 cents last year.
The reissue of the Eid stamp is one of a series of measures designed to win back support of the Arabs, who feel disenchanted with the blind US support for Israel against Palestinians. Other steps included the launch of Radio Sawa for the Arab audience and Ramadan Iftar which the US ambassador hosted last year for Saudi and other journalists at Quincey House, the US Ambassadors official residence in the Diplomatic Quarter here.
According to the US Embassy in Riyadh, the decision to reissue the stamp reflects the US governments resolve to commemorate two important Muslim festivals Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.
This is a proud moment for the Postal Service, the Muslim community, and Americans in general, said Azeezaly S. Jaffer, vice president, Public Affairs and Communications for the Postal Service.
The Eid stamp, designed by Mohammed Zakariya of Arlington, Virginia, features the Arabic phrase Eid Mubarak in gold calligraphy in a blue background.
Employing traditional methods and instruments to create this design, Zakariya chose a script, known in Arabic as Thuluth: and in Turkish, Sulus He used homemade black ink, and his pens were crafted from seasoned reeds from the Middle East and Japanese bamboo from Hawaii.
The paper was specially prepared with a coating of starch and three coats of alum, and egg-white varnish, burnished with an agate stone and aged for more than a year.

damnit! Didn't we go through this aleady last year? I wrote the commission that picks stamp designs complaining about this stamp but I never got a response. surprise, surprise

They had a contest on some philatelic site. Apparently, there was an organized campaign to vote this stamp to be reissued. It worked. And i'm sure people bought this stamp by the sheet to boost the sales numbers.

Like a bad penny this POS stamp keeps coming back. I thought we were over and done with this repulsive stamp. No one wants to buy the damn stamp. End of story!

When in Saudi, I used to give Eid greetings to my friends by saying "Eid me". Of course Ramadan was "Ramadan a ding dong".

So, now we are in the business of soothing ruffled turbins?
Supposedly, the postal service raised postage in July to help with their deficit. Think they have one now, wait for some disenchanted americans to reject paying for and using them. Why it's called free advertising when it's on tshirts and hats etc.

What's even more offensive is the Frida Kahlo monobrow stamp - she was an avowed Marxist, did anyone even know that before they issued a stamp in her honor?

It is not subliminal. THEY read right to left.

Okay, maybe the guy who desinged it should get e for effort, and they should sell them as a colletor stamp not for everyday use like the flag stamps or the special Christmas ones.
I am talking about the eid one of course, and others like them.

They wouldn't stick- then I found that I was spitting on the WRONG SIDE!

Consider the source. I will not believe this until I see it reported somewhere other that ARABNEWS.
