President Bush began the day by meeting with senior members of Congress, who later announced that there will be a resolution regarding Iraq before the elections. Bush then met with a group of cancer survivors, including Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, and announced an increase in cancer research funding. The President also met with Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

Quite often you can find used chairs in this style at second hand and antique shops, because the style was popular during the colonial revival of the 20's and again in the 40's.
Obviously, an antique from the 18th century is worth thousands (and those chairs President Bush has are probably true antiques) but there are plenty of sources to get similar styles. I hope this helps.
Hubby and I sing with a Czech chorus (The Montgomery Czech Singers. Maybe you've heard of us? ;o) )The chorus joined the Sokol (Czech/Slovak fraternal organization) Singers from St. Paul sang together. We sang the Czech National Anthem and the most sentimental favorite of all Czechs, "Pisnicka Ceska" a song which got its composer executed by the Soviets.
So he's got a Spencer in his past, eh? That means he's related to both Prince Charles, and to Lady Di........I wonder if that means that both of them also had Henry Spencer in their ancestry, or is the Bush/Queen Elizabeth connection different.
And I wonder if these are both on the Bush side and not the Pierce side.
Personally, I'm still trying to find out if I'm related to Leif Ericson or Eric the Red, or if my ancestors threw their enemies into bogs! :o)
The powers that be at St. Thomas who put together the program (he was there to accept an award; "Planning a Civil Society". Unutterably DULL ceremony, incidentally...) invited the only two Czech Choruses in the area, as well as a troupe of outstanding Czech-Slovak dancers who performed in their traditional folk dress for Havel. (This was much more interesting than the speeches, believe me!)
I watched George W. Bush's convention speech, and not knowing why, sat there and wept. For me, it was the first time that I sensed God's hand on this man. I felt for the first time in 8 years, a sense of hope that our country was not swirling down the drain, never to recover, but that God, indeed still had His almighty hand on us, and was giving us an opportunity to repent and come back to righteousness.
Little did I know how dramatically God would use George W. Bush, not only to change this country, but to literally change the world........one heart, one soul at a time.

What a neat group that must be! What kinds of things do you usually sing for?
Actually, "Pisnicka Ceska" is translated as "Czech Song" and it refers to the songs the people sing that draw them together: Czech, Moravian, and Slovak. The Commies didn't like ANY form of nationalism.

Money. Fame. You know: the usual. Actually, we are quite busy in the summer months. We sing at lots of church festivals, city celebrations, and sometimes we are invited to perform for civic groups or special events, like Havel's visit.
Anything ethnic around this area involves Czech music to a large degree, so summer weekends are almost always booked somewhere. Lots of parades and celebrations, as I said above. At the end of the year, whatever grants, donations, and payments were made to the group are divided among us according to how many of the engagements we participated in. It usually runs around $150 per singer. But we have recorded 5 albums, one of which is sold out. There is a great demand in this area for the kind of music we sing, and people are actually impressed when we tell them that we sing with this group.

Yeah....pride in one's own country was something that the Soviets frowned on, but murdering the composer?! Yikes!
I spent a couple of weeks in Ukraine after the Iron Curtain fell, and the horror stories from the beautiful Ukrainian people were abundant. We were among Christians who maintained their incredibly strong faith through oppression, and their stories were downright amazing.
