A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 9/18/02
yahoo.com, whitehouse.gov

Posted on 09/18/2002 7:41:48 PM PDT by rintense

President Bush began the day by meeting with senior members of Congress, who later announced that there will be a resolution regarding Iraq before the elections. Bush then met with a group of cancer survivors, including Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, and announced an increase in cancer research funding. The President also met with Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I used to sell furniture. If you are looking for reproductions, you can find chairs like that at any Ethan Allen store, or any store that carries Thomasville, Henredon, or Baker upholstery. Smaller manufacturers like the Sam Moore chair company used to make them.

Quite often you can find used chairs in this style at second hand and antique shops, because the style was popular during the colonial revival of the 20's and again in the 40's.

Obviously, an antique from the 18th century is worth thousands (and those chairs President Bush has are probably true antiques) but there are plenty of sources to get similar styles. I hope this helps.

Been reading the comments about Iraq's
letter to Kofi supposedly saying that
only military sites can be inspected.
THE LETTER ITSELF doesn't say a word
about it. The head of the Arab League,
who negotiated with Iraq to produce
the letter, told a British newspaper
that this is Iraq's true position as
told to him. Thus, the dishonesty of
Iraq's letter!

For something competely different, where do your loyalties lie for the big game here on Saturday, with Ohio State or with UC?

Thanks MM. I have checked with Ethan Allen and a host of other stores in my area but I can't seem to find just the right one. Either the back is too high, or the seat is too wide, or the arms are different. I shall keep pursuing this though as the other chairs I have decided on - at Ethan Allen - haven't come in yet. They started advertising them in April and they still don't have any in the store. Errrrrrr. Thanks again for the info. I'll keep you posted.

Well, for me there's no decision to make. I was raised an OSU fan, and got my Masters there, but for my husband it's always a tougher choice. He'll go with UC, though, since it's his undergrad Alma Mater, and he's more of a 'southerner' anyway ......Dayton :o)

"OK, redhead......who did you sing with in the TC's??? I lived there for 6 years and sang in several choirs.......including singing in my college choir with the combined St. Thomas/St. ?? (The women's school??) ah, St. Catherines, and McCalester choirs in Carnegie Hall......"

Hubby and I sing with a Czech chorus (The Montgomery Czech Singers. Maybe you've heard of us? ;o) )The chorus joined the Sokol (Czech/Slovak fraternal organization) Singers from St. Paul sang together. We sang the Czech National Anthem and the most sentimental favorite of all Czechs, "Pisnicka Ceska" a song which got its composer executed by the Soviets.

George W is cuter than cousin Winston, isn't he? :o)

So he's got a Spencer in his past, eh? That means he's related to both Prince Charles, and to Lady Di........I wonder if that means that both of them also had Henry Spencer in their ancestry, or is the Bush/Queen Elizabeth connection different.

And I wonder if these are both on the Bush side and not the Pierce side.

Personally, I'm still trying to find out if I'm related to Leif Ericson or Eric the Red, or if my ancestors threw their enemies into bogs! :o)

"How did you get to sing for him?"

The powers that be at St. Thomas who put together the program (he was there to accept an award; "Planning a Civil Society". Unutterably DULL ceremony, incidentally...) invited the only two Czech Choruses in the area, as well as a troupe of outstanding Czech-Slovak dancers who performed in their traditional folk dress for Havel. (This was much more interesting than the speeches, believe me!)

OH, THANK you for posting the links to those speeches, kayak!!

I watched George W. Bush's convention speech, and not knowing why, sat there and wept. For me, it was the first time that I sensed God's hand on this man. I felt for the first time in 8 years, a sense of hope that our country was not swirling down the drain, never to recover, but that God, indeed still had His almighty hand on us, and was giving us an opportunity to repent and come back to righteousness.

Little did I know how dramatically God would use George W. Bush, not only to change this country, but to literally change the world........one heart, one soul at a time.

A song that advocated freedom of the Czech people, I assume?

What a neat group that must be! What kinds of things do you usually sing for?

Well, you know of my animosity to one of the schools, plus when it comes to "big time college football", since one of my alma-maters doesn't field a football team and the other is I-AA, I always root for the Bucks. Therefore, it is a no-brainer, go OSU. Unfortunately, no Clarett on Saturday (there is no way they want to risk a serious injury on that sorry excuse for a field at PBS).

"A song that advocated freedom of the Czech people, I assume?

Actually, "Pisnicka Ceska" is translated as "Czech Song" and it refers to the songs the people sing that draw them together: Czech, Moravian, and Slovak. The Commies didn't like ANY form of nationalism.

"What a neat group that must be! What kinds of things do you usually sing for?"

Money. Fame. You know: the usual. Actually, we are quite busy in the summer months. We sing at lots of church festivals, city celebrations, and sometimes we are invited to perform for civic groups or special events, like Havel's visit.

Anything ethnic around this area involves Czech music to a large degree, so summer weekends are almost always booked somewhere. Lots of parades and celebrations, as I said above. At the end of the year, whatever grants, donations, and payments were made to the group are divided among us according to how many of the engagements we participated in. It usually runs around $150 per singer. But we have recorded 5 albums, one of which is sold out. There is a great demand in this area for the kind of music we sing, and people are actually impressed when we tell them that we sing with this group.

Sorry to be so late to post this Psalm! It's well worth the wait though, I think.

Psalm 69

An Urgent Plea for Help in Trouble

. 1 [1] Save me, O God!
        For the waters have come up to my neck.
        2I sink in deep mire,
        Where there is no standing;
        I have come into deep waters,
        Where the floods overflow me.
        3I am weary with my crying;
        My throat is dry;
        My eyes fail while I wait for my God.

        4Those who hate me without a cause
        Are more than the hairs of my head;
        They are mighty who would destroy me,
        Being my enemies wrongfully;
        Though I have stolen nothing,
        I still must restore it.

        5O God, You know my foolishness;
        And my sins are not hidden from You.
        6Let not those who wait for You, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed because of me;
        Let not those who seek You be confounded because of me, O God of Israel.
        7Because for Your sake I have borne reproach;
        Shame has covered my face.
        8I have become a stranger to my brothers,
        And an alien to my mother's children;
        9Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up,
        And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
        10When I wept and chastened my soul with fasting,
        That became my reproach.
        11I also made sackcloth my garment;
        I became a byword to them.
        12Those who sit in the gate speak against me,
        And I am the song of the drunkards.

        13But as for me, my prayer is to You,
        O LORD, in the acceptable time;
        O God, in the multitude of Your mercy,
        Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.
        14Deliver me out of the mire,
        And let me not sink;
        Let me be delivered from those who hate me,
        And out of the deep waters.
        15Let not the floodwater overflow me,
        Nor let the deep swallow me up;
        And let not the pit shut its mouth on me.

        16Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good;
        Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.
        17And do not hide Your face from Your servant,
        For I am in trouble;
        Hear me speedily.
        18Draw near to my soul, and redeem it;
        Deliver me because of my enemies.

        19You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor;
        My adversaries are all before You.
        20Reproach has broken my heart,
        And I am full of heaviness;
        I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none;
        And for comforters, but I found none.
        21They also gave me gall for my food,
        And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

        22Let their table become a snare before them,
        And their well-being a trap.
        23Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see;
        And make their loins shake continually.
        24Pour out Your indignation upon them,
        And let Your wrathful anger take hold of them.
        25Let their dwelling place be desolate;
        Let no one live in their tents.
        26For they persecute the ones You have struck,
        And talk of the grief of those You have wounded.
        27Add iniquity to their iniquity,
        And let them not come into Your righteousness.
        28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living,
        And not be written with the righteous.

        29But I am poor and sorrowful;
        Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.
        30I will praise the name of God with a song,
        And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.
        31This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull,
        Which has horns and hooves.
        32The humble shall see this and be glad;
        And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.
        33For the LORD hears the poor,
        And does not despise His prisoners.

        34Let heaven and earth praise Him,
        The seas and everything that moves in them.
        35For God will save Zion
        And build the cities of Judah,
        That they may dwell there and possess it.
        36Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it,
        And those who love His name shall dwell in it.

LOL! Right! It's what makes America work.........greed and glory!

Your group sounds like loads of fun........and a sold out CD?! Impressive!

Yeah....pride in one's own country was something that the Soviets frowned on, but murdering the composer?! Yikes!

I spent a couple of weeks in Ukraine after the Iron Curtain fell, and the horror stories from the beautiful Ukrainian people were abundant. We were among Christians who maintained their incredibly strong faith through oppression, and their stories were downright amazing.

The Commies didn't like ANY form of nationalism.

Its name notwithstanding, that describes the predominant policy of the United Nations.
