YOU ARE INVITED: Celebrate the D.C. Chapter's 4th Anniversary w/ Counter-Freep of Commies 9/28/02
D.C. Chapter | Thursday, September 19, 2002 | Kristinn

Posted on 09/19/2002 8:22:23 PM PDT by kristinn

The D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to come to Washington, D.C. a week from Saturday and celebrate with us as we commemorate our fourth anniversary with a counter-freep of the communists and anarchists who will be ostensibly protesting the World Bank and IMF, but in reality are protesting against America and in favor of communism.

FreeTheHostages explained our reasons for standing against this crowd on this thread:

Hey, I'm with the DC Chapter and I live right near their Ground Zero protests each year. TRUST ME they're only PRETENDING to hate the World Bank. What they actually hate is private property. As per the above news article, they intend to destroy some. They make it clear that they want to harm the entire "system" in downtown DC.

They come, they have banners about the virtues of socialism, etc. Oh, TRUST me, they're socialists. Also there are a lot of Green Party people that come with environmental stuff. (Hey, I even believe there's manmade global warming, but I'd protest their anti-capitalist solutions to it.)

The name of the group is the Anti-Capitalist Convergence. That should give you an idea that globalization is just this banner for their rantings.

Sauropod added: I assure you that no one is more anti-globalization than myself on this forum. Yet I will be out there counter-protesting these eco-fascists. They are not anti-globalization. They are just anti-globalization because they are not the globalists in control.

We will not be demonstrating in favor of the World Bank and IMF. We will be demonstrating in favor of capitalism, private property rights and America.

The D.C. Chapter demonstrated against this same crowd last September 29. That demonstration was peaceful and boisterous. We expect the same atmosphere at this one. Law enforcement officers will be everywhere like last year.

Alas, also like last year, we will have to wait a few more days before we announce our meeting place. The leftists just changed the place of their rally from the Ellipse to the Sylvan Theater at the Washington Monument and have yet to announce a march route.

We will exercise our right to stand on the sidewalk (somewhere) along the parade route and peacefully offer our opinions on their message.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

When: Saturday, September 28. We'll start gathering around 11 a.m.

Where: TBA, in downtown Washington, D.C. along the march route.

Bring: American flags, signs and a sense of humor.

Afterwards: We will have an early dinner to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the D.C. Chapter and plan for our future actions at a restaurant to be determined then.

"Chief" Ramsey should be calling out the National Guard and revoking permits for this crowd because of their stated intentions to massively violate the law, block traffic and shut down our nation's capital in a time of war on Friday.

Instead, the "Chief" is advising law abiding motorists to bring a book and a sandwich to pass the time as they sit in long back-ups.

There are no calls for law breaking on Saturday. If they hold to their pattern, most of the anarchists will have gotten themselves arrested by then.

Wow, Kristinn, you're totally right about Chief Ramsey. I wish he'd protect all the rest of us by curtailing the leftists rampage through the streets a little better.

Now, a la reprise of Stand Watie's "protect the women and children," I say: "Protect Gore_War_Vet's truck!"

Are they expecting 10,000+ eco-commies this year too?

We have no numbers yet. The Washington Times article states, "One activist said he expects the protesters, who represent a broad spectrum of environmental and social causes, to be a "smaller, more militant" group."

There were 10,000 in 2000 and about 4,500 last year.

I'm sorry, I won't be able to attend this FReep. Please be careful and cautious, remember the tense situation we had this last April 22, when the police failed to protect our Patroits Rally from those creeps. Be firm but tactful and make sure that the police provide proper security. Good Luck!!

Wash. Times Takes Ramsey to Task:

Shut down the protesters
House Editorial

Published 9/20/2002

Metropolitan Police Chief Charles Ramsey is trying to reassure us that he has, or will have, everything under control next Friday, the day the Anti-Capitalist Convergence and other hooligans plan to shut down the nation's capital. His comments make us nervous.

Chief Ramsey is urging commuters not to drive to work and school that day. If we do, he suggests that we bring "a sandwich and a good CD to listen to because you could be stuck in traffic for awhile." There is no humor in his comments.

The Anti-Capitalist Convergence (ACC) and other violence-prone groups will be in town next week to demonstrate against the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. On Sept. 27, the day before the meeting, the protesters plan to block motorists from entering the city. "The chief has a very good assessment of what to expect," ACC organizer Michael Loadenthal said. "We are planning to shut the city down."

Those unadulterated threats must not be taken lightly. Protesters are planning a massive bike rollout smack in the middle of morning rush hour at Union Station. They plan other morning disruptions near City Hall and the White House. Additional plans will be firmed up at meetings held over the next few days at D.C. public libraries. So beware — these meetings must be open to law enforcement and the general public.

The chief's plan to deal with this — don't drive, or "bring a sandwich and a good CD" — is unacceptable. That would spell victory for the hoodlums.

Clearly, what Chief Ramsey must do is thwart the protesters' plans. Shut them down before they cause trouble. For starters, the chief should look into prohibiting their bus caravans from parking. The organizers' preselected parking lots include several Metro locations — including Greenbelt, Stadium-Armory and Franconia-Springfield. Those lots, as well as others controlled by Metro, are primarily there for daily commuters. Surely, there are legal options — in the name of public safety — to prohibit private buses from using those facilities. Besides, more commuters will be utilizing those parking lots now that the chief has discouraged them from driving to work and school.

Instead of trying to play the protesters' "game," as Chief Ramsey characterized the situation, he should be steps ahead, thinking of ways to shut them down before they can cause any serious trouble.

. . . remember the tense situation we had this last April 22, when the police failed to protect our Patroits Rally from those creeps.

I respectfully disagree, Dutchy. Under the circumstances, I thought the DC Police did an excellent job of keeping the lid on things in April. Last September, the police were more than ready for trouble as they stood between the unwashed and the rest of us on Pennsylvania Ave. In any case, there is no way the "Hate America Crowd" is going to keep me away next Saturday.

Good evening, Takoma.
