That's no joke. I'll repeat a story for those who didn't see this show on PBS...
There was a good documentary on PBS (KCET in Los Angeles) centered on a number
of Vietnamese that lived through the final conflict.
It was suprising well-balanced...and done by a reporter for the LA Times that was
based there during the war, and then recently.

It included one story of a woman and her husband who had been South Vietnamese that
became communist operatives during the war.
Currently they are running into (figurative) brick walls trying to help peasants
raise their standard of living with aquaculture...but the "haves" of the party
(I guess communists from the north) have real control and power...while those from
the south are treated shabbily, even if they fought in concert with the NVA.

...I found his reporting during the war to be slanted against what we were doing there...

...so I am a bit surprised about what you have just posted about his current reporting on the Enslaved Vietnamese.

this movie was just re-released this weekend here in AZ, for a "world premiere" of a new sound system developed by Robert Wallace. There is a set of huge speaker(s) on the ceiling of the theater, so that the sounds of the helicopters, wizzing bullets, ect...are more realistic.

This sound system will be coming to a theater near you. Don't miss it ;)

I'm afraid I hadn't heard that (I was a schoolboy when Tet happened, but remember the news
reports).
But I would believe it. It was unsettling for me to watch this show because I found
myself having some sympathy for this Viet Cong lady and her husband...they did fight
thinking they were liberating their homeland from influence by a foreign power...
only to find out they had made a deal with a corrupt foreign power (The communists of
North Vietnam) that is holding them down economically.

But...I do hold some hope that the bamboo wall around Vietnam is crumbling, slowly.
A few weeks later I saw some reports on Vietnam on The Nightly Business Report
(on PBS) and you might as well have titled it "The Vietnam War Is Over...
And The Communists Didn't Win".
The country realizes it's got to get with the capitalist program just like China
or stay mired in the rice patties.
But, we're going to continue to see stupid ideology such as the punishment of this
actor while some of the old farts are still around.

It's probably about the same deal as is going on in Iran...grandpa can't let go
of the Great Satan mantra, the teenagers just want to wear Levis and have a Coke and a smile.
