Don't get me started on the multiculturism or the all cultures are created equal argument. I remember five years ago; walking down a street with a girlfriend, and passing some stores. In one of them there were all these poster's or pictures done by elementary school children which had various captions such as "Multiculturism is good" and "Support Multiculturism." I didn't have to ask myself where these kids were getting these ideas. By God, it wasn't the same as saying be opposed to ethnocentrism but that's what the teachers sell it as. Later in the restaurant a woman who was obvious from out of state commented, "Did you know that they have all this stuff in Spanish at the schools posters and all no English." "Did you know they teach these kids in Spanish." My response to self was, "lady I guess some people are catching on."

I have an ugly suspicion about the Florida matter.

In the classic fable about the little boy who cried wolf, eventually, when the wolf was real, no one came to the boy's aid because it was assumed he was lying to get attention yet again. But what if the townsfolk would have come to his aid, if they hadn't been too worn out by the previous false alarms to do so?

A state of heightened alert always carries that risk. Our resources, as great as they are, are not unlimited. They could be dissipated by a series of deliberate false alarms, leaving us too enervated to respond to the real thing. And many Islamist sympathizers could well be unwilling to give their lives to the cause, but more than willing to help with a campaign to wear us down in this fashion.

It's hard to know what the right response to such a campaign would be. To reduce our level of alertness carries obvious dangers. Nor can we make macabre "jokes" such as the ones alleged in Florida into punishable crimes, without turning the entire country into a prison-state. But the danger is real... and if I were a bin Ladenite, I'd be doing my utmost to exploit it, to make ready for the next real strike against American lives and property.

Herodotus said of the Thracians, "To live by war and plunder is of all things most glorious."

I guess that can be considered idealizing the Thracians. That's the life!
