IMPERIAL, Pa. -- It was time to cut the ribbon on a new exhibit at the Pittsburgh airport.
But this would have to be a ribbon-cutting without the cutting, because scissors aren't allowed in the airport anymore. So, the VIPs had to tear the ribbon instead.
After Sept. 11, scissors and other objects that could be used as weapons were banned from airports.
The new exhibit is a replica of a Tyrannosaurus rex. It's supposed to promote attractions in the Pittsburgh area, including the dinosaur collection at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

I agree. It is sheer stupidity to have ribbon in an airport. Somebody could have tripped over it or worse, have strangled themselves with it. I say the time has come for ribbonless ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

"...So, the VIPs had to tear the ribbon instead..." I'd have promised to tear the ribbon, just like they wanted.
But, when it came time to actually do it, I'd have dropped to my knees, bitten the ribbon and begun thrashing around while making wild animal noises.

I guess they couldn't use any sharp tools to build this new exhibit either. Construction in airport terminals must be much more difficult now

I agree. It is sheer stupidity to have ribbon in an airport. Somebody could have tripped over it or worse, have strangled themselves with it. Even worse, some Middle-Eastern type male or maybe a berserker blonde Britney bimbo (understand, I'm working hard not to profile here) could use that ribbon as a garrote in a hijacking effort. Nosirree, we better keep ribbons out of airports.

Uttterly stupid bump!

What??? A pair of human hands are capable of doing the same job as a pair of scissors? Clearly anyone with hands must not be allowed to get on these airplanes.

airport security = mental masturbation

Hmmmm...Maybye we should be bound before being borded on the flight and then shackled into our seats.

When does this crap end?
At the airport in 1968, I'd step out of Dad's car, walk into the terminal to the gate and settle down for a three hour flight to my university's town.
Now I get detained, frisked, and fondled.
Tom Ridge is an ass-breath; he is determined to bankrupt the airline industry, he's a socialist, if he had had a brain, he could maybe pass the moron test.
