Of course, the worst possible thing you can do to that little girl is to use the gov't brute force and separate her from her natural mother who. I bet, she cares a lot more about her daughter than a million of empty-headed bleeding-heart stupids out there.

I don't like being in agreement with you on this subject, but you are right.

People need to have the right to discipline their children. I am not condoning the way she did it. She needs to be taught the right way to spank a child, for bad behavior.

People need to actually watch the tape several times.

The mother is hitting her with an open hand, she is not punching her.Do she go overboard? Yes. A four year old girl may look like a sweet angel, but we do not know the factors leading up to this "behavior" of the mother. Was it the right way to do it? No, but let's bring the whole force of the law down on her.

Take her child away to be put in a state foster home. Yea, that's the answer.

Flame away. BTW, I'll rased six children, so I know a little about the way to discipline your kids.

Those of you who have no children and think their dogs and cats are like children think they know what they are talking about, do not respond

I agree that the child shouldn't be removed from the mother. The mother was wrong to beat the child, but there is as much of a chance that the child will be abused in foster care than if she stays with her mother. Taking children away from their parents solves nothing.

I know a little about the way to discipline your kids.

Discipline comes from the word "disciple," which means "a pupil or an adherent of another: follower;" "to teach; train."

The one who disciplines, therefore, is to so "teach or train" another that the "disciple" adheres to what is being taught. Discipline must be done in love and with love. I did not see any "disciplining" by this mother. I saw an out-of-control, enraged woman "attacking" her 4-year-old; and prior to her attack, she checked to make sure she wasn't being observed for her imminent assault.

My children have received discipline in the form of spankings, time-outs, and/or withheld privileges. I would hope they pattern the discipline they received by me with their own children; I also believe the discipline they received helped mold them into displaying more appropriate behavior, which, after all, was the intent.

Displaying inappropriate behavior (i.e. attacking another) does not cause the "disciple" to behave appropriately.

I know.

Perhaps the bleeding-hearts out there should note that she is using the spanking method advocated by their #1 idol, O'Reilley of Fox. Mr. O'Reilley advocated spanking for as long as it is done with an open hand and not on bare skin.

SHE IS FOLLOWING O'REILLEY ADVICE!!!!

As for the 'outraged' out there, they've probably raised their kids following Dr. Spock's Bible. And we all know what came out of that.

Thank you for your commenting of what brought that about. It's exactly the discussion I had with my wife last night.

I believe I suffered spankings a lot worse that what 'millions of outraged Americans' saw on TV last night and they were to my own good, God bless my mother who was usually in charge with my discipline. I love her for helping me turn into the happy, successful individual that I am today and I love her for loving me enough to really care about what I growing into.

Get a life people and look after your own kids. Their future depends on what you do today to keep them on the right path.

Discipline is not rendered with a closed fist. And i did watch the tape. When she wasn't pulling the child's hair, slapping her, and shaking her, the mother was indeed striking the child with a closed fist.

That's not discipline. That's abuse.

So what you're saying is that doing something to someone that would get you arrested - assault and battery - to another adult is OK to do to a kid? We're not talking spanking here. We're talking about a clearly defined difference here.

No adult has a right to PUNCH A FOUR-YEAR-OLD CHILD IN THE HEAD. That is NOT discipline. It's people with attitudes like that that give the media fodder for classifying right wingers as nuts.

I guess you missed the closed fist punches at the end.

If you happened to be in that parking lot and witnessed the "spanking" first hand, what would you do, stop her and say, "Your technique is all wrong - here, let me show you how it's done"?

Taught by whom?

And would you force her to submit to the teaching? How?

And if she told you (or your the teacher you have appointed) to take a flying leap off a short pier, what would you do?

If, free of the threat of state sanction, she continued to "discipline" her child--publically, privately, whatever, whereever--in this manner, what then?

Let's say she is your neighbor, and she is so enraged by your buttinski attitude (suggesting she needs to be taught the "correct" way to discipline her child), that she makes apoint of violently beating the child in your presence whenever you are near physically. What do you do then?

Interestingly, this debate about how she should or should not have behaved could not have occured without big-brother watching through the camera.

Now we all have the opportunity to put this woman in jail and/or put the kid in a foster home etc. Perhaps sending the kid to a foster home and this woman to jail might keep the little girl from physical injury or worse....but next time, maybe you will be investigated for spanking your child?

I think we all need to put our tin-foil hats on and realize how much that "unobtrusive" camera in the KMart parking lot can forever change your family's life.

You may have raised 6 children but that doesn't mean you know *how* to raise children. Beating is not discipline.

Well, I'm raising seven kids..........so I'm qualified.

I completely disagree with you on this one. I'm all for keeping the government out of our lives, especially when it comes to our kids, but this wench went beyond the pale; she beat the living hell out of that baby and she DESERVES to lose that child. I do NOT say that casually or lightly, and anyone who knows me would know that it would take a LOT for me to say that.
