A Page From the Feminist Playbook By Brian P. Yates (bio)
Other Articles by Brian P. Yates Back to News / Home Page In this day and age of political correctness, even the golf courses (which used to be a haven from the everyday world) are no longer exempt from the power of feminists. When NCWO chairwoman Martha Burk attacked Augusta National Country Club over its membership policies, shes started a fight in which nearly every so-called expert agrees with her: Augusta should have women as members. But the real point isnt whether they should or not; Burk is trying to force it. But Augusta is a private club, and therefore completely within its right to make its own membership policy. And by the way, when feminists claim that Augusta is anti-woman, that is not entirely true. Spouses of members can play, and guests can play the course as well, male or female. In fact, women played over 1000 rounds of golf last year at Augusta.
Burk suggested that if Augusta would not admit a woman that The Masters Tournament should be taken elsewhere: The Masters, in my mind, is not tied at the hip to this club. An event of this profile could be held somewhere else. When you think of The Masters, you think of Augusta National, and vice versa. This tournament will never be held anywhere else. It would not be the same. Obviously, Ms. Burk does not know much about the history of golf.
Folks, Augusta National is a private club and can admit anyone it wants too. If it wants to admit monkeys before it admits women, that is the club's prerogative. And before all you women out there start screaming about equality, womens rights, and all that other emotional excrement you liberals rely on, its not like there arent any all-female clubs and organizations out there. For instance, no men are allowed to join the Women In Motion Health Club and Day Spa in Newark, Delaware. It only admits women.
Their mission statement says that the spa was created out of a conviction that women require a safe, secure, positive and un-inhibiting atmosphere to achieve physical and mental well being. What? Do men create a negative and dangerous atmosphere? Would having a male member inhibit a womans desire to exercise? Probably not, yet you dont see any National Council of Promoting An All-Male Agenda out running around yelling, screaming and generally just throwing a hissy fit over this all-female club.
And while were on the subject of all-female institutions, what about colleges and universities? Fifty-seven (57) all-womens colleges are listed on Yahoo! Directory. Running the same search for all-male colleges resulted in a huge list of two. Do you remember the Citadel and the Virginia Military Institute? Remember how they used to be all male, but began to admit women when the feminist crowd threw a fit? Apparently it is acceptable to exclude men, however to exclude women is inexcusable, discriminatory, and flat-out wrong.
What about the Girl Scouts? Are boys allowed to join? I see the Boy Scouts attacked every day, but we dont hear much about the Girl Scouts. Hey, I have no problem with women playing golf, or even with women playing golf at Augusta National. However, for Martha Burk to think that she can dictate a private clubs membership policies is completely ludicrous. And to force Augusta to change would be unconstitutional. They are completely within their rights to restrict membership to whomever they want and Augusta Chairman Hootie Johnson is to be applauded for refusing to give in to the feminist movements ridiculous PR onslaught.
Anymore, too many people simply cave in the face of media pressure; however, Mr. Johnson has stood firm and refused to become politically correct. Burk says that Augusta needs to come into the 21st century. Well if the 21st century is the millennium of the politically correct, thank God that Augusta has stayed behind. Maybe next on the feminist agenda is to rid the world of separate bathrooms
women feel excluded and discriminated against because men have the use of urinals and can use the bathroom standing up. |
