I doubt the local police and D.A's will start arresting and prosecuting parents for home-schooling their kids. They have too many other problems to deal with and besides the public relations angle is a nightmare. Home schooling's gonna survive even in California regardless of what Wicked Witch Of The West Delaine Eastin does to try to stop it dead in its tracks.

Famous last words?

All Kalifornians have to do is like now!!...
Keep doing nothing and the government will revoke your right to homeschool.
Overnight they could do it.

However, the state does not regulate private schools or prosecute truants, which is the responsibility of local school districts and district attorneys.

Yet another attempt to sell more newspapers by exciting the general public. Makes sense that this article would run in the SD paper since there's such a large contigent up in North County (Vista in particular).

Only well into the body of the article do they finally reveal the truth: neither the state nor the county BOEs have any real power over the respective shool districts.

By way of reference, a consulting firm I was involved with a couple of years ago won a contract from the state BOE - only later did the principals find out that Sac had no authority over the local districts.
