This is all I've been able to find.

from Bonior's official biography, "
"Following graduation, Bonior joined the Air Force and was stationed in California. There he worked as a cook, slinging hash by day and attending night classes at Chapman University, where he earned a Masters Degree in History in 1972. "

From McDermott's official biography:
"After completing his medical residency and military service, he made his first run for public office in 1970.."

That sounds pretty clear that he was never in Viet Nam. There is a big difference between being a Viet Nam Vet and being a Viet Nam Era Vet. I am going to call a friend of my husband who is the retired Veterans Administration Representative for this region, and Viet Nam vet, himself. Maybe he can help.
