I think this could be key in a number of states. Point out that the Senate is a league of lolligagging slackers, the slowest (at confirming judges) in 200 years! Americans don't like do-nothing, posturing blowhards, but that's who's running the Senate.

Senators don't pay a lot (if any) attention to calls outside their districts. I pulled up my Lotus Organizer and my Rolodex and started checking people I knew in each state. I then did a cut and paste of the phone numbers of the Senators and sent my friends the 'Daschle 50' list plus the phone numbers and said: 'CALL AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT - AND IT JUST MIGHT'.

Alas, I don't know anyone in Alaska, Rhode Island or South Dakota!

I also reminded them that Jim Jeffords WAS NOT ELECTED as a Democrat...and while other elected officials have changed parties, none had the effect this change did. DASCHLE WAS NOT ELECTED AS SENATE MAJORITY LEADER. He would not BE Senate Majority Leader without Jeffords.

While you're at it, tell them the REAL reason the Dems have 50 Senators instead of 49 is that when Paul Coverdell (R-GA) died, the Dem governor appointed Zell Miller (who was subsequently elected to finish out the term).

If Paul Coverdell were still alive, Jeffords' flip (if he had the stones to go through with it when it wouldn't matter) would have meant nothing. Daschle would NOT be Majority Leader.

Thanks for all the hard work. I pray our efforts will give "W" the team he needs to get us out of the muck. I wanted to include something I've done that I hope will help locals make the connection between Daschle's do-nothing senate and the race in Texas. It fits nicely in MS word processor to print out on Avery business card stock. I hand 'em out and also leave a few laying around in conspicuous places for the curious ; )
