REV. JERRY FALWELL CALLS THE PROPHET MOHAMMED 'A TERRORIST'

The Rev. Jerry Falwell will call Islam’s founder and most sacred figure, Mohammed, "a terrorist" on 60 MINUTES this Sunday night, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

“I think Mohammed was a terrorist. I read enough…by both Muslims and non-Muslims, [to decide] that he was a violent man, a man of war,” Falwell tells CBS. “In my opinion…Jesus set the example for love, as did Moses, and I think Mohammed set an opposite example.”

Falwell hits total controversy while affirming the Christian Right’s steadfast support for the state of Israel against its Islamic enemies.

The interview with CBS reporter Bob Simon, in which Falwell hints that the Christian Right influences U.S. government policy toward Israel, has been set for broadcast, network sources say.

MORE

Falwell sent a personal protest to President Bush, and the White House received 100,000 e-mail protests from Christians when Bush urged Israel to remove its forces from Palestinian towns earlier this year. Falwell believes Bush is well aware of the Christian constituency. “There are 70 million of us…[and] there’s nothing that would bring the wrath of the Christian public in this country down on this government like abandoning or opposing Israel on a critical matter,” Falwell tells Simon.

Falwell and conservative Christians support the Israelis and condemn their enemies because they believe the triumph of Israel is God’s will. The Jews’ return to their ancient homeland – and sole ownership of the territories Arabs and Israelis both lay claim to -- is a precondition for the second coming of Christ, according to the Fundamentalist Evangelical Christians’ interpretation of the Bible. The Biblical scenario is not a savory one for many Jews, however. “God save us from these people,” says Israeli political analyst Yossi Alpher. “When you see what these people are encouraging Israel and the U.S. to do…ignore the Palestinians, kick them out…they are leading us into a scenario of out-and-out disaster,” he tells Simon.

But disaster is part of the scenario. Many Fundamentalist Evangelicals believe there will be catastrophic events on earth, some occurring already, including the turmoil in the Middle East, culminating in the Battle of Armageddon in which Christ will triumph and begin ruling the earth. At this point, they believe, non-believers will be destroyed, good Christians saved and any remaining Jews converted to Christianity.

Says Ed McAteer, a founder of the Moral Majority and known as the godfather of the Christian Right, “I believe that we are seeing prophecy unfold so rapidly and dramatically and wonderfully, and, without exaggeration, [it] makes me breathless.”

Drudge is trying to make Bush look bad here, by associating him with Falwell and the religious right.

But if you ignore all that stuff after "MORE," what Falwell says is perfectly true. Islamic terrorism and violence goes all the way back to Mohammed himself. Those are the historical facts.

The sooner we in the West realize this, the better off we'll all be. Moslems practice "al-taqiyya" or lying to the infidel, so they'll never admit this.

Anyone disagree? As a man of faith, Falwell will be considered a hypocrite because he isnt showing "love" or "acceptance" of people of other faiths.... BLAH.

Heck, Muslims want to outlaw this type of speech.

How long until the Left takes up this cause ?

Technically he probably was, also a pedophile (10 y/o wife or something like that). But as we're trying to divide the Arab world against Saddam, I don't think this kind of talk from the administration would be beneficial.

Mohammed was indeed the terrorist seed from which the religion of Death sprouted.

I hope your not suggesting we ignore what's written in the book of Revelation.

?Jesus set the example for love, as did Moses, and I think Mohammed set an opposite example.?
Falwell needs to reread the Pentateuch. Moses was as an effective military commander in the field as he was a shepherd of this people in the camp.

And then Falwell needs to learn to keep his bloody damned mouth shut so close to a damned election when the opponents of the religious right search their hardest for loudmouth attention-junkies like Falwell. Apparently Falwell needs to reread the New Testament too: cast not your pearls, be as wise as serpents etc., etc.

Call me a tin foil nut, but I find the timing of this interview suspect. Elections less than a month away, I think 60 minutes is attempting to stir up controversy. Connect the dots between the wascally religious right and the Republicans. Think about that at the ballot box, yadda, yadda, yadda.

War-monger yes, terrorist no. And self-defeating to mention at this time.

Crook defeated the Apaches by mobilizing the Apaches to defeat the Apaches. We will defeat the terrorists by using Americans of Muslim and Arab descent to defeat the terrorists.

No wonder Mohammed is worshiped by the left. He's their kinda guy.

Falwell has it right this time.

Maybe true. But he has the wrong timing.

Why can't someone lioke Falwell, who claims to have so much political sense, realize that the liberals in the media are looking for an election year smear against the Religious Right?

Unfortunately, all they have to do is call Falwell and turn on the camera.

How I wish we had better spokesmen who could realize that the best way to advance our cause is not to go around sticking your fingers in someone's eye just to make a point.
