Women's Group Wants Billboard Removed
Women's Photos Used To Illustrate Payment Options
Posted: 12:36 p.m. EDT October 4, 2002
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- A women's group is blasting a California company's billboard as offensive.
The billboard (pictured, left) uses photos of three women to illustrate payment options for software. A prostitute represents hourly, a girlfriend represents term and a bride represents perpetual.
The billboard is along a highway near Santa Clara, where the company -- e-ECAD -- has its headquarters.
GraceNet, a national organization for women in the high-tech industry, wants the billboard removed.
The group has given the ad campaign its DisGraceful Award in Advertising.

I betcha the execs who approved this knew it would get this kind of response and did it because of the advertising value it would have once the complaints materialized.

And a very successful ad campaign ... they've gone national with one billboard.
