One sure fire way to get McBribe to shut-up is to ask him how he'd pay for the $30 Billion that his "education plan" would cost. It's sickening how the liberals manage to keep this little tidbit out of the debate. The migratory northern bluehaired RAT voter might be shocked to learn that those taxes they thought they were avoiding by retiring to Florida, could come home to roost if silly billy gets in office.

Thanks, windchime. (^:
Florida voters aren't being told:
If passed, the Amendment to Reduce Class Size could:
- Result in a significant decline in teacher quality due to the large demand for new teachers
- Cost the state $27 billion (The current overall state budget is only $50 billion!)
- Translate into costs of up to $4000 over eight years for each Florida household
- Require for the first time a state income tax and/or sharp increases in property taxes
- Jeopardize state programs such as health care, family services and law enforcement
- Reduce other critical education programs- special education, arts, music, band and extracurricular activities
- Force districts to rezone current school boundaries
- Eliminate raises for teachers for up to a decade
- Cause the use of portables for up to 75% of new classroom space
Coalition to Protect Florida
Here's what the editors of Tampa Tribune (McBride's hometown paper) said about the "class-size" amendment today:
Voters Should Reject Costly Class-Size Amendment. The Miami-Herald printed a major poll showing that voters support drops when they learn the cost of this deceptive amendment.
Voters favor class-size plan -- but not cost, Sept. 29, Miami Herald.
Official Price Tag on Class Size Initiative - Florida Tax Watch (BAD IDEA, McBride!)Money also matters [How CA's landmark law to reduce class size was a disaster for poor students]
The press and McBride aren't telling the voters that the state's top educational and business professionals are all against this "class-size" amendment. It's a teacher's union enrichment plan. That's it. It does not help the children.
Those who OPPOSE Amendment 9 include:
Florida State Board of Education,
Florida Chamber of Commerce,
Council of Economic Advisors ,
Florida State University Board of Trustees,
Florida Association of District School Superintendents (FADSS) ,
Former Sen. Connie Mack.

Maybe. If the class size was set to zero. ;)

Class size has always been a cop-out for less than competant and lazy teachers and unmotivated students(not stupid).
All throughout my grammar school and high school years, I was in large classes.
In college.....larger classes.
The education was first rate.
That was in the 1950s and 1960s.
What has changed in 40 years?
You can answer that!

"One sure fire way to get McBribe to shut-up is to ask him how he'd pay for the $30 Billion that his "education plan" would cost."
Ragtime Cowgirl in post #6 gives us the answer since McBride/McAuliffe won't.
Thanks.

"Maybe. If the class size was set to zero. ;)"
That sound as viable as the rest of his 'Plan'.:)

NOTICE-
The poll has changed to Social Security investment.
To: CROSSHIGHWAYMAN
Are you referring to the group that owns McBride/McAuliffe?:)
I didn't get the last numbers on the amendment poll. When I checked, the topic had changed to Social Security investment.

I think the papers are reluctant to bring up "class-size" because it's McBride's and his teacher's union handlers ONE big issue...but others are getting the word out. (^:
On the positive side, even though the Orlando Sentinel headline says that support is down for putting some private money in SS, their own poll says:
Would you support a plan allowing you to invest some of your Social-Security taxes into private accounts?
84.9%
Yes (124 responses)
13.0%
No (19 responses)
2.1%
Not sure (3 responses)
I voted. (^:

Yes, when I went back to see how the amendment was doing, I found the SS poll. I voted, too!
I linked the great post you put on the amendment poll thread on the 'Voters Should Reject Class Size Amendment' thread. With the poll gone, I didn't want your good information to get lost. I think you've seen it, but just in case:

Thanks for adding a FReeper vote to the poll!
I'm sorry my initial post was misleading about the topic of the poll, but they changed it after I posted. Social Security investment is still a subject that's pertinent and on which we need to make our preferences known.
Thanks again......also for posting the current numbers.
