Adapted from the 2002 Wriston Lecture, which National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice delivered to a Manhattan Institute audience at the Waldorf Astoria on Tuesday night.
FOREIGN policy is ultimately about security - about defending our people, our society and our values, such as freedom, tolerance, openness and diversity. No place evokes these values better than our cities.

Why do people refer to Democrats as "Democratic, Democratic Party" etc.? Democrats are anything but democratic.

For the same reason North Korea is called the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Thet are reactionary, fundamentalist liberals. Nothing democratic there. They are modern day Jacobins.

America is proof that pluralism and tolerance are the foundations of true national
greatness. And today - 385 days after Sept. 11, 2001 - it is clear that our commitment
to our ideals is stronger than ever.
Don't worry Lady Thatcher...another Iron Lady has grasped and now holds high the flag.

I try to always refer to the Democrat Party, or Democrat politician, or Democrat policy. It's all about perception, and if I do my little part to delineate in someones mind the difference between a Democrat and democracy, it's a good thing.

our values, such as freedom, tolerance, openness and diversityCan someone explain to me why Liberty and Justice were replaced by socialist dogma "tolerance", "openness", "diversity"? And why we just eat it up if the "right" people are saying it?

Yes, modern Liberals seek to expand on the rights in the Constitution rather than construing it narrowly. But is there Liberty w/out "tolerance", "openess" and "diversity".
I think Liberty must be enjoyed by all legal American citizens. My problem w/ the Liberals' concept of "Liberty" is that it somehow gives minority groups (of which I am a member)license to impose their will on the majority. As a Jewish person, I fail to see how having a cross or Christmas tree in a state building or public school infringes upon my "Liberty" to practice my religion. Militant Jewish Liberals (and other minority groups) seek to use the cover of this doctrine to attack the rights of the Christian majority in this country.

"I try to always refer to the Democrat Party, or Democrat politician, or Democrat policy. E.g. The Democ-rat party. It is telling how they even misrepresent their very name....

I don't object to tolerance, except where it tolerates immorality and/or criminality and excuses either. I don't object to openness where it is my choice, not forced upon me by someone else. I don't object to diversity except where it is used to promote unfairly, or excuse unjustly, one group or member of a group.
I do object to the use the "liberals", i.e. socialists and communists, are making of these words, and their narrow vision of the ideas.
And, I object to conservitives using the words and narrow concepts chosen by the liberals, instead of promoting our truly higher morals and values of, and methods of achieving, freedom, liberty, and justice For All.
