Rush's fill in says police have BOLO for two hispanic men. When asked could they be M.E.'ers, source said - could be. Then the host went on to tie Gertz's book on 9/11 where a known Al-Qaeda cell was active in Prince George's County in the same town as one of the shootings.

Maryland is NOT a right to carry state. They have some pretty draconian anti-gun laws.

There are still some Arabs living in the area; I see them on occasion.

Well, just because they are looking for two "hispanic" men, doesn't mean they don't have "Guns&Ammo" on their coffee table and hunt moose in Maine.

These guys werent on foot, no way. You can do that route in a truck easily, in the time allotted, however. Rush hour is crazy around there and there are plenty of lights, though. They didnt mess around, they had a plan ..

Rush's fill in is named Roger Hedgecock. He is the local conservative radio guy here, used to be Republican Mayor until charged with ethics violations which were thrown out due to jury tampering. He has emerged as a leading conservative voice here in San Diego and now national! On a personal note, he's also a very nice guy. This past Friday - Sunday our community has a huge Oktoberfest street fair. Something like 150,000 pass by during the three days. I asked Roger to due his local Friday show in front of my store and he did! I was on the show most throughout the three hours and it was a blast!

current shootings could just as easily have been a native, well-trained Nation of Islam member as a Middle Eastern immigrant (though I lean away from the Nation of Islam theory).

My feeling is they were authentic Mid Eastern. Its just a gut feeling from working down here for 20 yrs , and having lived near the shootings, etc . The place has many fundamentalist Arabs who feel very much at home in this eclectic environmnet of the DC suburbs. Theyve got a network of sfe houses, etc.

Hey, look, if they wanted to symbolically target DC, why would they go to Montg. and PG counties to look for targets? Ill tell you why.. its because they live here, thats why.

Anyone know if Md is a right-to-carry CCW state (like my MI)? If my family lived there, I would at least want a level playing field.

Not. Legal to transport to/from shooting range in trunk. I carried in locked case in back of hatchback (300Z) and had no problem with cops at range.

Boy, 13, Shot by Sniper at School :

Meanwhile yesterday, in the District, where one of the slayings took place, Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey said that police dogs trained to sniff out gunpowder or explosive residue were "alerted" to a wall about 80 yards from the site where Pascal Charlot, 72, was shot to death Thursday night in Northwest.

The wall bears the sign for Northminster Presbyterian Church, at the nearby corner of Alaska Avenue and Kalmia Road NW.

Pastor Leonard Lassiter said that police told him Sunday that they would be "exhaustively" checking the five-foot wall, and possibly removing bricks to test them. The wall sits under a tree, in a fairly dark area with a clear line of sight to the well-lighted corner where Charlot was killed with a single shot about 9:20 p.m.

Thanks area: Maryland is different from New York, but not very second amendment friendly. Maryland required spent cases from each new gun be turned into the police. Marland is also pushing "safe" guns. i.e. guns that only fire after they read the palm print of user. That's probably because no production models exist.

The entire Rockville economy is govt driven. It is not the direct employees. It is the workers for all the contractors. ie; Rockwell, Boeing, Raytheon, Alliant Tech, Inland Motors, services companies, Grumman, Northrop, Ship builders, munitions makers, and on and on and on..... There would be one general store, two bars, a church, and a post office in Rockville if it were not for the gubmint and it's tenticles. The people who live there are contracting officers, secretaries, account representatives, telecom reps, repair/service grunts, hustlers for their share of the federal pie. Some of them vital and everything good. Most parasitic and unable to earn a buck in a competetive environment. I used to be one of them, I know! I used to make a living off of taking $4,000 copy machines and modifying them for shipboard use and cause them to cost $9,000 a copy. One aircraft carrier has about 75 copy machines. Even submarines have copiers! I used to teach navy grunts how to fix them. When they could not fix them, they flew us out to fix them.

"I don't think you can get from Aspen Hill to Leisureworld in anything like 25 minutes on foot. Nor do I think you can get from Leisureworld to Kensington in an hour and a half on foot."

My point exactly. I was unsure about the last couple of maps antivenom posted so I couldn't answer to those. But, as I said, the shooter on Wednesday evening through Thursday morning not only had to be traveling by vehicle (timewise), he/they had to shoot from the vehicle as well. (the only cover in open parking lots)

Laurel, like Bowie, is in Prince George's (PG) County.

Sorry, I can't confirm that from personal knowledge. I must have driven through Bowie on the way to Annapolis on a few occasions, but I don't remember anything about it.

IIRC, it's next to the wine shop. That's a really weird intersection; it's got five separate streets meeting at that one spot. To get to Kalmia (the street they keep mentioning) from southbound Georgia, you have to take a half right turn onto Alaska, go maybe 10-20 yards, then another half right onto Kalmia. The wine shop faced onto that turn, with a fairly wide sidewalk (IIRC - I'll admit, I'm operating on ten year old memories). The intersection itself is pretty wide-open, in that there aren't a lot of trees on any of the corners (outside of the park on the northeast corner of the whole mess). The park itself is in Maryland; Eastern Avenue is the boundary between Montgomery County and the District.

I hope I haven't muddied the water or confused anyone with all of this description.

(BTW, for the folks who wondered about the neighborhood, it was comparatively upscale and unabashedly liberal; among my neighbors on the DC side of the street, then-Howard University president James Cheek; then Georgetown coach John Thompson and the infamous Randall Robinson)

Oh, I remember him, but I don't put this in the same class; Helder was a stupid kid who had nothing better to do - this is someone much more cold and calculating.

I would remind you of Steelman and Gretzler who committed a series of revolting murders in Arizona and California some years ago. They are both dead now-at least one was executed, perhaps both. These two guys were unrelated and not crazy. They were just evil sob's who killed for the "fun" of it.

It is not hard to imagine that the perp has checked out all of the locations ahead of time. Who knows how many more spots he has left.
