In the DC shooting, the area is flat; IIRC, there are gently rolling hills as you head further north into Montgomery County. I would gather that the biggest issue would be trees much more than anything else.

Rock Creek is near some of the shooting areas; and I'm pretty sure that you might have some drop-offs from the sides of the roads in question in some of those areas.

Whoa there. What I was implying was if my town became a shooting gallery, I would assume armed and dangerous folks to be around and might be able to stop one if seen pre-sniper attack with a weapon. I agree there is no way any of the victims could have stopped the attacks. But passers by may confront the perps at some point and the police will never have the scope to protect everyone.

Sorry but I seriously doubt there are many residents that are packing up their things...selling their houses and moving. Can you back this claim up? These are isolated shootings...Washington DC used to be the murder cap of the US correct? I doubt this shooting spree is going to scare anybody off...in the city or outside the city.

Everyone seems afraid to use the "T" word in relation to this; I would say that it should be called what it is - an incident of terror. The "Department of Homeland Security" should be brought into play, and even if it is found that this is a case of "homegrown" terror, it should be treated no differently than any other instance of terrorism.

This knuckle=dragger has done exactly what he has set out to do: get everyone one edge and riled up, thinking that we cannot be safe in our own neighborhoods; in our own homes. The Feds need to stop playing pattycake with what's what, and go ahead and haul out the big guns. The men in Oregon came to the attention of authorities when a neighbor reported hearing guns firing. They were indeed practicing in a quarry.

A few problems with your circles.

First, shot at Michael's Store, Michael's is in a strip mall and the only windows face toward Aspen Hill Road (Below the star in your map)

Second, the Saddle Brook Park in the second map is located behind the shopping center complex. The victim was out front in a large parking area.

Third, I don't know the layout.

Fourth, too many buildings to block site of 95% of your circles. The way the gas pump islands are situated (perpendicular to Rt.185) and the victim was in the process of pumping gas, he was hit in the chest ruling out a side shot because the pumps are too high and the other direction is obstructed from long range view, the shot would have come from the Giant Food grocery store parking lot directly across from Rt.185 (Connecticut Avenue) in the extreme lower portion of the circle.

Fifth, the victim was sitting on a bench in front of a store that faces out into a parking lot. The parking lot's grade rises as it gets to Georgia Avenue where it levels off. The green across the roadway is a residential neighborhood.

Sixth, the shot is believed to have come from across the street in the Safeway grocery store parking lot. That is one of the locations that a "white truck" was seen leaving the area.

As for the others the timetable suggests that getting around on foot is a possibility and I can't tell you what the lay of the land is but the Wednesday-Thursday shootings would have to have been mobile. Time would not allow for any walking and the only logical shooter locations are in the surrounding parking lots.

I agree. And it does not necessarily mean AQ or Saddam. (Or Arafat). When a perp jacks a car in Detroit and shoots the innocent driver (and mom) like happened a few months back, my thoughts were - this is as bad as the WTC in some ways. Apparently, there are noted concentrations of Al Qaeda, Hizballah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups in Laurel and Potomac, MD and Herndon and Springfiled, VA. The bookstore at the Muslim Community School in Potomac, Maryland offers some pretty strong material. Maryland is an anti-gunners wet dream state. The ironic part is that Montgomery county is one of the two centers of anti-gun extremism in the state (the other being Baltimore). Politicians in Montgomery County try and outdo each other in restriction of gun owners.
