He is also chairman of Michaels Stores Inc., a nationwide chain of arts-and-crafts supply shops.

Mr. Wyly, who has collar-length hair and an energetic twang to his high-pitched voice, is relishing his moment, appearing on television and granting interviews. Though he and his brother are among the Bush campaign's biggest contributors, he insisted the ads were also an effort to promote his environmental interests.

WHEATON - The first bullet fired in a shooting spree that killed five people in Montgomery County Wednesday and Thursday, narrowly missed Ann Chapman, who was working at Michaels arts and crafts store in Northgate Shopping Center.

It's a miracle no one was hurt after the bullet cut a dime-size hole in the display window, nicked a light fixture, pierced two posterboard signs and hit a metal rack holding rows of mini-books at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.

But the amazing thing is what the bullet stopped next to, the store's employees said: a book called "Inspiration for the Heart from the Prayer of Jabez," by Bruce Wilkinson.

The book flap says, "A simple daily prayer from the heart can inspire you to seek God's constant favor, power, and protection."

The bullet has not been recovered.---SNIP--

Again, welcome. Researching geneology can be fascinating. Callers on WMAL now talking about a pattern forming; one speculating that it's a fibinacci (sp) spiral and another psychologist saying the killer's marking out an enlarging area because of his delusions of grandeur -- increasing his area of power. Also mentioning possible significance of Michael's stores. The psychologist can't help lamenting the fact Virginia doesn't register long guns or "this crime would be solved by now."

I don't know about any of this. It bothers me, but I can't understand it. My daughter lives up near DC, so I worry. Not much risk, I think, but I still don't like it.

I went to Rockville H.S. Graduated in 75. Been living in PHX, AZ and area since 79. My sisters and family still in Rockville so this is hard for me, too. My sis works for Montgomery Co.
