The family of the 13-year-old boy who was shot outside a Bowie, Md., middle school Monday spoke out Thursday afternoon, praising the staff at Children's Hospital National Medical Center were the boy is recuperating as well as the law enforcement officers who are working the case.
The boy was shot as he walked into Benjamin Tasker Middle School after being driven to school. He is believed to be the eighth victim in a series of sniper-like shootings in the Washington area that have left at least five people dead and two injured.
A hospital spokesperson said the teenager remains in critical but stable condition and is still sedated.
"He's a fighter and we remain optimistic. As our doctors have told us, this is a marathon, not a sprint. But we are confident we will make it to the finish line," said Wayne Curtis, the boy's cousin (BELOW).
He also appealed to family, friends, neighbors and the press to respect the family's privacy. Curtis said the family is focusing all of its energy towards helping the boy recover.
"We are very concerned and troubled by the numerous public reports, at time erroneous, about his condition, requests by the family and other details. We fear this places him at risk and will compromise the law enforcement efforts to apprehend the responsible party or parties," said Curtis. "We will not do anything that may serve to hinder the ongoing investigation including interviews with the press."
Curtis read the short statement and took no questions from reporters. He concluded his statement by asking the public to continue to pray for the boy's recovery.

Just so. This guy [or guys] is not even a real sniper, just a terrorist, or a sicko. A real military sniper takes on high-value targets- officers, radiomen, crew-served weapons and vehicle crews, things the average grunts can't reach or are unlikely to be able to identify.
This guy picks only unarmed victims, women and kids, and lowest-class random ant-people so low on the social order that their own government doesn't even trust them with handguns. If the shooter was taking out cops or government higher-ups with bodyguards, I might find some grudging respect for him, but he's not.
It's either a psychopath, who doesn't care, or a terrorist afraid of taking on a target that could shoot back, even with a handgun.

Yes there has been at least one hispanic victim. The only characteristic the victims share, is that of being Americans. At least one was a naturalized citizen from India.
