Racial Profiling of Sniper Misfires

Although the likes of CNN think racial profiling is OK when it comes to trying to find the D.C.-area sniper (but immoral in hunting terrorists), profiling does little to solve homicides and has led to few arrests.

So says retired New York police detective John Baeza, who told the Washington Times that statistical-based theories on the race, age, sex of a criminal are often groundless when little evidence exists.

Charles Patrick Ewing, a forensic psychologist and professor of law at the University at Buffalo, agreed. "It's really too early to believe a psychological profile is going to be useful," he told the Times.

"It's so dense a population that it really doesn't narrow it down."

People could overlook a viable suspect if he does not fit the description presented by profilers. Though speculation that the sniper is a man is fairly safe, details such as race and age are much more questionable, he said.

I keep changing my mind. If that Tarot card is associated with the sniper, the words written on it make me think it could be a Moslem. It's too weirdly written --like maybe a foreigner is trying to throw the police off.

While I have been critical of his diction, I, too, am all for Chief Moose personally getting his hands around this creep's neck. And I agree, he does seem to be doing better.

For a devout moslem to claim to be God is not reasonable. Maybe a phony one, who is more interested in the "cause" could do it but there's not enough evidence to claim anything except that the shooter is not a devout Moslem, Christian, Jew or Buddhist.

The media would never ever rule out Christian though. And if he is a Christian they'll portray *all* Christians as wackos. Remember the 'I am God' exerpted clip of Koresh the media used to shore up the 'toon's allegations that the Waco victims really *were* wackos who deserved to be shot and burned?

I don't think anyone is talking about racial profiling but rather it's sniper profiling, which has nothing to do with race.

That's why I think it could be a Moslem trying to throw the police off by making it seem like a Son-of-Sam type ---the way it's written is weird. Not that a US psychopath couldn't write weird like that the "Dear Policeman..I am God" doesn't quite seem like it's written by an American ---but maybe by someone trying to make it seem like it. I keep changing my mind.

And we don't know who the perpetrator is, so one really can't say that profiling has "misfired."

CNN gave profile as per usual White male, 18-34 years, problem with women, loner .... etc, etc.

Best clue now is white van with two people. Some loner.

Sounds exactly like the profile for the Anthrax mailer.

Murdering strangers at random is as American as, well, french fries, Lowenbrau beer and the kind of 'Polska Kielbasa' you can buy at your local supermarket. In fact, you might say it's an American invention and a long tradition. I recall Peter Bogdanovich's first and arguably best film Targets, made in the late 1960s, which had a cameo by Boris Karloff, and concerned an alienated phone company worker (no info on his religious preferences,) who climbed a water tower and started shooting at cars passing by on a nearby freeway. There have been several similar cases in those days.

Consequently, aside from the media's obvious political preferences, the profiles being issued from zero evidence generally fit the profiles of the past culprits and sound, in this one case, more reasonable than the paranoid, myopic speculations about some mysterious, dark, mythical Muzzle slims. They haven't done it before, but we have!

Oh my god! I did a little searching on the guy that wrote that story! I looked up his nickname and found some strange posts. I will get back with more. Seems to be arguing with others that he has a life, stayes home from school but does nothing with life. BRB

I'm sure this sounds horribly rude, but i'm surprised the liberals aren't praising him for being such a diverse sniper. If he were really shooting at random his victims would be 70% white, 13%black, etc. it looks to me like he is trying very hard to make sure he gets everyone on the spectrum but all i hear is "random, indescriminate, shooting".
