We're everywhere, Squantos. Reporters tend to get better the farther away they are from the big city. Lots of great reporting is done at small to mid-size newspapers. (My paper is 50k circulation and we've dominated in winning Virginia Press awards).

Fredericksburg is a good newspaper but I don't guess seamus told you that most here would still find it too liberal for their tastes. Thing is, believe it or not, you CAN have a "liberal" or relatively liberal editorial slant and still have a good NEWS department.
