In the 28 years that I have been driving (Washington State, and later California) I have only used pay first stations. That's all there is here. I remember as a kid that there were attendants that would pump the gas for Mom, and she would pay when they were done, but that's a bygone era. How is that racist?

Especially the last couple of weeks, when you don't know if your customer will be alive when the pump shuts off.

In Houston, the gas stations in predominately black and hispanic areas are pre-pay and are not pre-pay in white areas. Really. However, the gas station owners do what they have to do. They don't simply set out to anger their customers. It just happens that the pre-pay minority areas tend to be high crime as well.
