Indians killed each other. Sometimes they ate what they killed.

Europeans killed each other. Rarely ate what they killed.

Seems the Europeans were a tad wasteful as compared to the Indians.

Might makes right. If my country is mightier than your country, too bad for you. If your country is mightier than my country too bad for me. This state of affairs is as old as humanity, possibly older.

I think the world has changed a bit since 1492, especially after the world wars and the advent of nukes. Not so easy to just take over the neighbor's lot. I just think this retroactive view of history without the perspective and acknowledgement of the faults on both sides is clap trap.

Voltaire, Candide, Chapter XVI:

"Be sure," said Candide [to Cacambo], "to represent to them how frightfully inhuman it is to cook men, and how very un-Christian."

"Gentlemen," said Cacambo..."the law of nature teaches us to kill our neighbor, and such is the practice all over the world. If we do not accustom ourselves to eating them, it is because we have better fare. But you have not the same resources as we; certainly it is much better to devour your enemies than to resign to the crows and rooks the fruits of your victory."
