Sorry to disagree, poppyseed. Alexandria is an independent city. It is in no county at all.

Kingstowne is in Fairfax County, an immense county, and the shooting took place in a location far away but still in Fairfax County. Kingstowne may, however, have an Alexandria postal address--still it is Fairfax County. Much of Fairfax County has addresses of different postal areas which, like this one, can be a separate entity.

Arlington is a county but so populated that it is rather treated as a whole (or like a city).

And I love the word "disgrumbled". I think FReepers should add it to their vocabulary.

Judging by the many threads I've read lately, they already have. :)

We've used our cell phones several times tonight with no problem...could have been a local problem or maybe even something weather related in a regional area. If everybody gets concerned about cell phone capabilities and tries at the same time to 'check it out' there WILL be problems.

""..it's a scoped bolt-action rifle.."

That's been my guess all along. Could explain why he's only taken one shot per incident."

You may be right, but I've also read that for lots of complex reasons, the human brain has a hard time determining shot direction when surprised by the first shot.

Afterwards though, as a person hears the second or third shot, it quickly begins to hone in on the direction. I doubt he would take that second shot even if he could. It's part of his formula for successful escape.

I think it might be a killing 'game', pre-Halloween,
with occult overtones. College-age.

How in any way other than bullets being involved is that heavy-handed plan similar to the current situation?

Actually, per the Arlington County website, Alexandria is not part of Arlington County -- the two parted ways in 1870. But I don't see anything on the Alexandria or Fairfax Co. websites to indicate that Alexandria is part of Fairfax either -- I think it may not be part of any county. I grew up in Arlington and always had it in my head that Alexandria was part of Fairfax.

Daniel was told by , I think, the preincarnate Jesus that His way was blocked by the spirt prince of Persia for 21 days. Michael went to help Him and was left to do battle with the spirit prince.

"wear dark clothing - make it more difficult"

Local TV sunk to the bottom of the barrel and showed a view of the body. She was wearing a bright yellow sweater.

I was watching MSNBC a minute ago, and they were interviewing a Middle Eastern looking witness to this latest shooting, and in the background there was a ME looking guy laughing on his cell phone. ha ha ha ha

It seemed very strange. Did anybody else see this?

He can change vehicles and clothing but he can't change the olive skin.

Wanna bet? It might be makeup, and can be disposed of with a little cold cream. It's not like anyone is going to see him close enough and in good enough light to tell the difference.

I just lurked over at DU and wanted to see what they were thinking about this. I only found two threads.

Three if you count the one that's titled, "PROOF THAT SNIPER IS A RIGHT-WING WACKO"

Kids...

You're right, the M193 round came first. Thanks for the correction. I'd better double-check the rifle twist info, too.

These are the four offices traditionally ascribed to St. Michael:

To fight Satan.
To rescue the souls of the faithful from the power of the enemy, especially at the hour of death.
To be the champion of God's people, the Jews in the Old Law, the Christians in the New Testament; (therefore he was the patron of the Church).
To call away from earth and bring men's souls to judgment.

If this is Islamic terrorism, the message the Muslims communicate is quite clear: St.Michael can't protect the infidels.

However, if this is a lone domestic nut, it may also be a clue to his religious upbringing (more likely Catholic or Orthodox than Protestant).
