Uh...hunters entering safe areas of wood, as opposed to those which do not abut gas stations and parking lots are not within the extremely thin profile of the killer...

Try to tell that to a tennis-shoed granny who sees - horrors - someone carrying a weapon into the woods - a thousand miles away from a gas station. She's going to call 911 and someone is going to respond. And that someone should be free to be doing something more productive.

"WE ALSO NEED TO TEMPORARILY BAN THE IGNITION AND USE OF MOTOR VEHICLES, IN THE EVENT THEY BACKFIRE AND SOMEONE THINKS IT'S THE TERRORIST"

Especially since it could happen AGAIN during a live press conference being given about the sniper by the local police force to the national press.

I would hazard that he walks straight into the mine field. Meaning, he will get bolder and bolder until he is caught. That's part of the deal with murderers. It's like druggies; after awhile, it requires more drugs. Even if this guy's a terrorist, which I'm 60-40 he/they is/are, this is a game and it's a major high the way it's played. Unfortunately, the citizens will defeat him, but not in Maryland. The state is a wasteland. They might all die, one by one, before any in Maryland catches the sniper.

Why couldn't the sniper profile communists?

Perhaps I'm naive, or just suffering from selective memory, but I truly believe the bulk of law enforcement officers, especially locals, have brains which they are capable of using.

I agree, but would they dare to ignore a 911 call from a tennis-shoed granny? I doubt it.

Maryland is a 'you must be a redneck, right wing, hee-haw' if you own or use a gun and believe the 2nd Amendment is yours to claim. Hunting was about all that's left. It's like a UK/Australian progression in Maryland, always 'justifiable' for 'our own good'.

What exactly is the Maryland definition of a "projectile weapon?" Would this include air rifles, sling shots, etc.??? What about those nifty Hilti guns that use powder cartridges to drive nails? Are those to be banned also??

Lots of interesting possibilities here...

You're kidding me?! Too funny. Why don't they do something productive like issue the populace all flack jackets and helmets. Guns and training would be too effective.

Are the cops just sent out to the locations of bodies? What am I missing here? An army of terrorists could probably take over Maryland with fireworks alone right now...

"You're kidding me?! Too funny"

No, no kiddin'. IIRC, it happened during a live press conference with Chief Moose early last week. I'm about 98 % sure it was early last week. Anyhow, Moose was quit cool about it....while most everyone else was panicking.

He was the one to stand up to the mike and say, very authoritatively, "BACKFIRE", then finished the sentence he had begun before the interruption as though nothing had happened.

Sadly, you're probably right. Conservatives in Maryland are becoming an endangered species. Personally, I have found Maryland very frightening for the past twelve years. (WITH notable exceptions, but they aren't elected officials or law officers)

I'm sure it's somewhere in FR's humongous archives....buried, but I'm sure it's there.

Maryland is the east coast version of the Kalifornia twilight zone. There are large regions of America that, but for their geography, could use a good sterilization for re-inhabitation.

Here is the web page of press releases for the Governor of Maryland:

http://www.gov.state.md.us/gov/press/2002/html/octpress.html

The last release at the time of my posting was on October 8. I saw no mention of any ban on firearms discharges.

"Maryland is the east coast version of the Kalifornia twilight zone."

Yeah it is...as is New Jersey, and as PA is sadly becoming. Look what happened to the great state of Vermont! Look at Massachusetts!!

"Hey, you aren't the sniper are you?!"

LOL...no. Just a close personal interest in profiling the enemy right. All bad guys are the enemy. I have several relatives in the FBI, so maybe it's just a competitive "I can profile better than you can" thing...I've been right about several cases over the past 5 years and they have been wrong...so I'm winning.

I hope you're right again.

Wait...This just in from FOQS News:

"We are decreeing that as of this moment, the state of Maryland is banning any assembly in public areas without wearing a bullet proof vest and approved head gear.."

Governor Glendipshig's Office
