"Why does Newsweek fear a US victory over the jihad? "

Because liberals are basically cowards, the kids who got picked on at school a lot, who justify their cowardice with emotions, and then try to rationalize it with their supposed superior intellect.

It's a house of cards.

A victory would prove that strong people can, and should, make a stand, in the face of evil. Strong people will say, "let's roll," even though they know they are going to die for what they believe in. As in, the USA, and our freedom.

A victory would make them face the fact that they are really cowards at heart, that they would NOT be the ones to rush the cockpit, and they were wrong. Their cowardice would prevent them from anything other than pleading, "Can't we all just get along?"

As in, "please don't hit me, please don't hurt me, I'm on YOUR side, please, please..."

They would be the first to recommend that people NOT rush the cockpit. If the rush succeded, how could they live with themsleves after? That is the situation they face. That is what the article is really about.

"Better to die once as a man than a thousand times as a coward." (who said that?)

I gotta think that W is reading that NOT under the scenario you all are thinking - I think W fears that Iraq will try to pull an Israeli-like preemptive. Can we really beleive that Saddam is going to just sit there and passively take a beating?

"President Bush seems to learn from history."

And just maybe Hiroshima will come to mind.
