This is, of course, one of the classic goals of terrorism: to have the existing government impose such draconian restrictions upon its own citizens that they begin to hate or fear it and long for a change. Our politicians are already seen as eager for excuses to lord it over those who elect them and would seem to be perfect patsies for this old strategy.
