October 17, 2002 -- After two weeks of terror at the hands of the psycho sniper, residents of Virginia's suburbs are taking matters - and guns - into their own hands.

In Spotsylvania, Stafford, Prince William and Fairfax counties - all at or near sniper attacks - officials report up to a 500 percent increase in applications for concealed-weapons permits, and gun sales are up nearly as much.

The Virginians will have to defend Maryland too, but this won't be the first time that happened.

Yep. We've had people who were close enough to the sniper when he attacked to get a look at his face as well as his license plate number. Imagine if those witnesses had been armed and had opened fire on the sniper? Hitting the van alone would've been a big help, as a van riddled with bulletholes would be a lot easier for the police to find. And what if the sniper had been hit? Can't go to a hospital, so where does he go for medical attention? And while he's recuperating he can't go around shooting people. Then of course, if were to get shot AND KILLED then that'd put a stop to the attacks right there saving who knows how many lives.

Well, here's hoping the next time the sniper strikes he gets a taste of the 2nd Amendment.

I hope everyone remembers what political party wants citizens disarmed while their neighbors, friends and family are being gunned down on the street without a chance to defend themselves.

Also, they will not allow a citizen to stop the murderers through lack of the proper tools to do the job if they get the opportunity.

Self defense is the only protection that the public has. How many witnesses have seen this genteleman and could have sent lead flying in his direction if they were armed? By eliminating the armed citizen and relying on the police, the numbers and odds are reduced by the hundreds in catching this killer.

With all the talk about “evil guns” and the need for more anti-2nd amendment laws, when danger rears its head people opt for the freedom to protect themselves.
Northern Virginians aren’t known for their support of the second amendment – maybe that’s about to change.

Yes..we're such a pathetically corrupt state.
But trust me, Marylanders are carrying too, it's just that this is a "show cause" state for a permit which is almost impossible for the average citizen to obtain.

Go Virginia..hope you nail 'em.

You've got that right.

I'm lucky in having really fine neighbors that are all armed. If one of the gals in my area is sitting out in the yard getting some sun,she will most likely have a rifle or shotgun at her side for sending gophers to gopher heaven but my wife leans toward handguns.

This is not a safe place for criminals. Not much crime in my area and nobody worries about being hit accidentally because everyone is safe and shows common sense.

That would be Sarah Brady's worst nightmare. An actual indisputable demonstration of what the Second Amendment is for.
