I have a friend that puts clay birds on a bank at 60 yards away and he destroys them with a .454 Casull. I understand the ground splatter breaks the clays as much as his bullets do, but it's still far away. After he's done with breaking them, he tries for the pieces.

I have made some great shots at long range with my Ruger .357 Blackhawk but it is no a carry weapon. Also it was under ideal conditions. Much different with a typical carry weapon whose bench accuracy alone at long range would dampen the chance of a kill shot. Given a moving target, obstables and "deer fever" it would be almost suicide for most to attempt to get the sniper armed with his carry weapon. Now, given any of my deer rifles, and it would be another story!

All correct. However, could you see someone dumping a magazine or a cylinder full on the guy as he gets back into the vehicle? It could be a win-win. Even if he doesn't hit the guy, it could mark the vehicle, cause the guy to wreck on the way out, disable the vehicle, pinpoint him for more witnesses or delay him long enough so a police car could be that many minutes closer to catching him.

I really don't know. I do know what the witnesses are doing now at the scene while it's happening isn't working.

Except for the shooters on Free Republic. So far, I've come across a West Virginian, who in his youth could guarantee 100% lethal hits at 75 yards with a pistol, a guy that shoots holes in quarters at 200yds with his surplus rifle, and several people who've known people who've taught their kids/grandmas to hit the X ring at 300 yards, from a moving vehicle in a driving rainstorm, at night (ok thats a stretch - it was 200 yards)

It's always interesting to note how well people can shoot from behind a keyboard.
