Gray Davis : Illegal immigration is not against the law
Mark Larson Radio Show ^ | 10/18/2002 | self

Posted on 10/18/2002 12:29:26 PM PDT by ZGuy

At a rally yesterday, Gray Davis spoke on the subject of illegal immigrants receiving California drivers licenses. In order to gain the latino vote, Governor Davis clarified his position with the following statement which was recorded and played on the Mark Larson Radio Show this morning,
"I think they should be able to get a drivers license as long as they haven't broken any laws."

The clip is not yet available on his website, but it was so good I had to post it anyway.

"I think they should be able to get a drivers license as long as they haven't broken any laws."

I totally agree with this statement.

The clincher is that though Gray may use the same vocabulary, he uses a different dictionary. i.e. in Gray-speak "illegal" imigration is not breaking the law

Now I expect the libs there to redefine what an ILLEGAL alien is to something more POLITICALLY CORRECT. Maybe call them "Displaced Non-Citizens".

Well I guess if liberals can draw a distinction between oral sex and adultery then drawing a distinction between something being illegal and something being against the law isn't much of a stretch.

I thought the new lib-speak was "undocumented workers".

Why doesn't Simon harp on this instead of releasing pictures of Davis (gasp!) receiving money at somebody's house?

Me to illegal aliens driving around getting into accidents no insurance and then just split and go back to Mexico rather than pay...
Then again with those licenses they can move to other states and get licenses there and with a license buy guns....whoopie....the liberals have done it again....

Just when you think the mind boggle meter has run off the scale, along comes something like this. Recalibrate, and try again. Illegal immigrants are not breaking the law because, well, they are only undocumented workers, is that right? Raising the bar a little, so they are now here. Somehow, because they do not have any documents to show their status, they now get a free pass to ignore the local law. When some politically incorrect authority tries to contain the mischief their activies has caused, and calls them to account, he becomes a racist, follow me so far? Therefore, the authority person now becomes the criminal, and is removed from the position of authority.

Now, there are no longer any constraints upon the whim of the visiting undocumented worker, so he no longer needs worry about the consequences of his activities. This is so good, he transmits word of this new-found "El Dorado" back to his relatives, friends and acquaintances in the old country, "Come to California".

There is a version of "Gersham's Law" here, in that the presence of bad individuals drives out the good individuals. A California in which the existing laws are enforced, would soon be a state on the way back from the brink. When lawlessness is overlooked or even actively encouraged, by calling the bad behavior something else, everybody loses.

The position I have favor on this does NOT let the illegals get off scot-free. The rule of law is not endangered just because someone who violates a law doesn't get the maximum sentence.

Are you seriously saying that someone who ends up paying a hefty fine and who is placed on probation did NOT get punished?

If someone steals your car and has to pay a fine, but gets to keep your car...

Have they been punished?

Or has the government just sold them your car and kept the money?

Apples and oranges. In the case of property like a car, if the item is recovered, it gets returned.

Is the rule of law endangered just because someone did not get the maximum sentence?
