Azad Abdullah Charged With Wife's Murder

Azad Abdullah BOISE - Boise Police have just announced they have arrested Azad Abdullah for the murder of his wife, Angie.
He is charged with first degree murder, 3 counts of attempted murder, 1 count of arson and 1 count of felony injury to a child.
Azad is accused of suffocating Angie on October 5th, then setting their house on fire. His stepdaughter, his stepdaughter's friend and his newborn son were inside the house at the time of the fire. He's also accused of leaving his 18 month old son outside in the backyard unattended, as he fled the scene.
If convicted he could face the death penalty. We'll have full details on this story including what detectives say about the case coming up tonight on Idaho 2 News at 5:30 and 6:30.

Angie Abdullah BOISE - One week after terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Azzad Abdullah and his wife Angie told us they had been the victims of what they felt was an anti-Muslim back lash. My photographer and I sat down in their modest living room with the couple's toddler Niam sitting on Angie's lap.
"This is just never a situation that I thought I would ever be in you know...to be concerned about going out of my house, and being worried about what could happen." Angie Abdullah made those prophetic comments to us on September 18th 2001. Now that her death has been ruled a murder, Muslims are afraid according to Furquan Mehmood. "That is the worst fears, worst fears of anybody in the community that (something like this) was going to happen." Mehmood is the Vice Present of the Boise Islamic Center. He says Boise's Muslim community has been on edge since 9/11, and it just got worse.
"We have told them to watch out. I have personally talked to people (who say) that fathers and brothers are sleeping in the living room with guns in their hands. That is a bad way to go."
Police are stressing that thus far they have no evidence to suggest this was a hate crime. But Angie Abdullah told us last fall that she felt she and her husband had been the victim of race related harassment immediately after 9/11. "We had an incident when we were driving, we were kind of harassed by another driver it was real frightening. We had the children with us."
They were both well known within the Muslim community. Azzad, a refugee from Iraqi controlled Kurdistan, often called the faithful to prayer at the local Mosque. As a refugee worker, Angie opened up her heart to Refugees from all over the world.
"She was the heart and soul of the refugee center," according to Kathy Gardner a former co- worker. "I know the rest of the former refugee staff are just stunned. I can't imagine anyone wanting to harm Angie."
The news has had a huge impact not just on the street but also at high levels of government, where some members of Idaho Senator Larry Craig's staff have been especially hard hit by the news according to Mike Tracy a Craig spokesman. "It really has shaken the office up, and there has been as you can imagine a lot of calls to the office today."
Police insist at the moment there is no evidence to suggest a hate crime...something that would be a tragically ironic epitaph for woman who dedicated her life to tearing down barriers between people.
"I think people are concerned about throwing everyone into one pot and saying that these are Muslims and this is the way it is because you can't do that with any group."

Instead, it was the "well-known" Iraqi Muslim husband. Not to worry, the Muslim community will support him and swear his religion wouldn't have allowed him to do such a thing. It's a frame-up, doncha know?
Stunned that the infidel detectives solved the crime. Oh, but it's not really a "crime" in their culture. That will be the defense argument. She "mocked his manhood" and so he was "avenging his honor."
It was a post Sept 11 hate crime, commited by him.
He wouldn't e executed: he only murdered a woman, even if it was his wife. He'd just get a public caning and a few months in jail for that. Now, if it was another MAN he murdered, that'd be different. He'd face public execution.
He should have been excluded .....forced to "act out" his psychosis in the Islamic rathole he was born in. Force them kill their own.
