Ashland Shooting: Sunday Updates
Various ^ | 10-20-02 | GRRRRR

Posted on 10/20/2002 4:13:26 AM PDT by GRRRRR

The other thread is running over 2800 posts...so here's a new place to post for Sunday.

Per FOXNews, a 10am EASTERN news conference is planned. Two travelers pulled off I-95 for dinner at a Ponderosa Steak House. The Man, 37, was shot in the gut while his wife stood next to him.

Bullet has NOT been removed from the man while, after surgery, he remains in Critical but GUARDED condition, however, x-rays are expected to provide some dimensional analysis of the slug. Further surgeries may be required on the victim, according to FOX and then the bullet is likely to be recovered.

Meanwhile, the "white" box truck/van that was found with a "Shell" in it at Dulles is reported to be a 7.62 (.030'??) OLD shell and NOT expected to be part of the "Sniper Shootings".

Multiple LEA's are now in Ashland, VA located about 80 miles south of DC to begin more site investigations at first light of dawn.

Numerous witnesses in the area saw the man fall down and provided aid to the man. The man was still conscious and spoke during the rescue. According to (spit) CNN, there will be NO news conferences from the hospital.

Over to you Laurie Dhue...GRRRRRollin'

However, I would submit that the FBI is already running the investigation in concert with the ATF and other Federal agencies. Chief Moose is being used only as a titular head of this investigation.

I'll bet you're right about that. I've wondered whether they aren't already involved behind the scenes. And they can't all be as obtuse as Moose (didn't mean to make a rhyme, but there it is).

Well, let's hope they can figure this one out. I'd hate to see this go unsolved, which would bring a lot more of it down on our heads.

so did your friend say if the damned thing had mushroomed and/or fragged when it entered his butt ?

I think all he got was a fragment. It was a strange situation: he was on the other side of a berm and someone managed to bounce a round through a drainage pipe (the shield wasn't in place, for some reason). So, most of energy has been expended.

There was a local news radio report yesterday afternoon about a high speed chase down I-95 in Va and the driver got out on foot near Rt 610 (Aquia Harbor area). The police were searching on foot and advised everyone to be on the lookout. Helicopters were flying for about 3 hours straight. I have not heard or seen anything further on this. Does anyone know more about this and whether it is connected to the sniper?

a move further south, or some other direction outside the present radius, will throw the talking heads into a new realm of chatter. right now, they are attempting to support their earlier theories.

These shootings have all be sufficiently geographically separated as make a safe house available at a distance short enough to avoid being stopped at a roadblock.

I don't presume there is a single "safe house".

In fact, I suspect that the choice of locations for the shootings is being driven by the availablility of a nearby safe haven.

I would not be surprised if the shooter actually stayed at the scene of the shooting and causally walked to a nearby motel, like an arsonist staying around to watch his handiwork.

I would hope that the police have already thought of this, and that's why I think it's unlikely. It wouldn't be difficult to cross-reference hotel bookings.

I am reluctant to ascribe these shootings to organized terror...

As some tv experts keep saying, there is really no evidence either way yet. So they have to keep all options open. But as some have pointed out, this would be a very tricky crime to pull off without at least 2 people being involved, one to do the driving and concentrate only on that. Otherwise, it would be too easy to trip up. And having 2 involved makes it more likely that this is organized terror.

I wouldn't be surprised either if the shooter/s stick around the area. That would be a far less risky thing to do than to try to make an escape in traffic jams and roadblocks.

Soon after 9-11 the WSJ reported that the FBI had formed "black" squads, people who were NOT concerned about building cases but who would use dirty tricks (breaking in without warrants, for example) to prevent terrorism. Other investigators would continue to adhere to the rules.

WHY THE H*LL were they reportin this, IF TRUE?!
if these squads exist, we should NEVER hear 'bout them.

I found this:
Also on Saturday, members of a massive task force made up of local police, FBI (news - web sites) agents and federal firearms officials dashed about 40 miles south of Washington after a local sheriff sought help in a predawn, helicopter-backed hunt for a fugitive.
The man -- wanted for suspected weapons violations -- sped away from a police stop and eluded pursuing cars by driving the wrong way down a major highway even after spikes at a roadblock blew out the tires on his vehicle.
The shaven-headed man, wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, then ditched his vehicle at a gas station and fled on foot, Stafford County, Virginia, Police Sheriff Charles Jett said, warning the public he was "armed and dangerous."
"We sent people down there to see if there is any connection," Joyce Utter, a spokeswoman for the sniper task force, said by telephone.

Well I for one would want to know about it. Imagine if units like this exist in a Hillary! administration. Would you feel safe and protected in your Constitutional rights?

I still think it's a competition between 2 (or more) individuals. That's why I believe eventually one of the victims will be one of the shooters.

Unless they're muslims terrorists, one of them surely had in mind to execute his accomplice(s) after a while. Watch out for the perps starting to stalk each other and possibly die under circumstances that might not even be related to the shootings.

The "other thread" of 2800 posts has very little info about the shooting on it -- but a lot of ranting and raving .

I came in late last night and checked the headlines, seeing that thread, and in a half hour of perusing that thread, I could hardly figure out what was happening. It was really a lame thread, totally off topic.

I hope this thread fares better. A fresh start is needed.

I've been thinking for quite a while that the white truck and white van are red herrings. You'd have to be an idiot to keep using the same vehicle over and over to shoot from. So, truck/van is seen "peeling out" from first shooting scenes (while shooter unobtrusively drives in the other direction), and now everyone's conditioned to look for a white truck or van at the scene of newest shootings. The trucks/vans used as decoys – and their drivers – are perfectly clean and legal, so it makes no difference if they are stopped. Huge numbers of LE are on a wild goose chase.

The problem with the investigation is that the FBI's culture is one that is derived from investigating standard domestic criminal acts

It is a law enforecement mantra - certainly the view overwhelmingly promoted by the FBI - that there is no such thing as "terrorism" until someone takes credit for the act.

I've seen several LEO-types (including retired FBI managers/agents) pronounce this "unerring truth" on the news, with an unmistakable tinge of arrogance and condecension.

Yet that no one ever took credit for the first WTC bombing, the Cole, 9/11, the Yemen oil tanker, or Bali seems not to disturb their whacky "definition" of terrorism one iota.

It's quite clear why the FBI has been incapable of thwarting terrorism on U.S. soil. By their definition, there isn't any! (OK, maybe the Weathermen in 1968)

The FBI is completely out of touch with reality, and unforuntely they are able to cram their whacky views down the throats of local law enforcement.

this thread is 'bout NOW REALITY; i don't wear a diaper on my head, and i don't fit the prototypical physical profile of a diaperhead(pls don't go on 'bout semitic types bein caucasian, and sometimes it might be hard to be perfect in profilin).
bet that US agents are, in some ways, ALREADY usin profilin.

Anyone who wants to find a sane purpose or logical reason for the events we are experiencing, I contend, fits the definition of inane and offensive.

You talking about GWB? He seems to think he's got it all figured out. So far, the world has gotten a lot safer since his war on terror, hasn't it?

Name one country or agency in the Middle East where we do not now have a presence or was not originally or is not now supported by American Aid (e.g. Iraq, Iran, Egypt, PA).

I'll believe we're fighteing terrorism when no more American money is going to Middle East organizations and countries that support terrorism.

Evidently not enough Americans are dying in this country, so we'll send a bunch to the Middle East to make it easier for the Muslims to kill them.

Just a thought on the motive.
Michaels craft stores: Michael is Jesus the Arch Angel, Daniel 10:13, 21 and 12:1; Jude 1:9 and Revelation 12:7 mention "Michael" in this context
Virginia: Virgin
Maryland: Mary
7 shootings with the seventh shot at a Michaels store.
7 deadly sins
Glutany
-- 6:04 p.m. Wednesday: James D. Martin, 55, of Silver Spring, Md., killed in Maryland grocery store parking lot.

Pride
-- 7:41 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3: James L. "Sonny" Buchanan, 39, of Arlington, Va., killed while cutting grass at Maryland auto dealership.

Greed?
-- 8:12 a.m. Thursday: Taxi driver Prem Kumar Walekar, 54, of Olney, Md., killed at Maryland gas station.

Sloth (lazyness)?
-- 8:37 a.m. Thursday: Sarah Ramos, 34, of Silver Spring, Md., killed outside Maryland post office sitting on a bench.

Envy?
-- 9:58 a.m. Thursday: Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera, 25, of Silver Spring, Md., killed as she vacuumed her van at Maryland gas station.

??
-- 9:15 p.m. Thursday: Pascal Charlot, 72, of Washington, D.C, killed while standing on a street in the nation's capital.

??
-- 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4: 43-year-old woman wounded in craft-store parking lot in Fredericksburg, Va.

Maybe its a reach, but it makes some sense with the tarot card stating "I am god"
