Cell phones are EASY to trace. In fact phone calls in general leave a long-lasting trail of detailed billing records, whether you call to or from a cell phone or land line phone. But calling from a cell phone is the stupidest thing a criminal could do. Location of radio devices is very advanced and precise - no GPS receiver needed. If you needed to, you could locate a cell phone to within 10 feet in three axis, based on signal strength data from the fixed transcievers. If the shooter has a cell phone that's on, by now he has been in enough specific locations at specific times, that that his cell phone number could almost certainly be deduced from the carriers' databases. It would not be trivial, but neither would it be rocket science.

Happy to hear you found it interesting.
With regard to Moose I guess at this point he provides a necessary comic relief. If you can't solve the case or contribute materially to it at least you can make people laught.
If they finally manage to quietly retire him he can probably still find employment as the bungling but irritable sheriff in some sitcom. Perhaps Sheriff Moose of Mayberry. Nothing to do now but wait for his next performance.
BRAVO MOOSE BRAVO, Encore!

I assume you've noticed the other thread about Moose announcing that the sniper left a message after the shooting yesterday.
To: ARCADIA
No doubt the National Enquirer is sometimes wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it in a given case, especially a high-profile one.

Zodiac Killer, Green River Killer, and Son of Sam...did you ever read "Ultimate Evil" by Maurice Terry? BEST book ever written on serial killing...I have read them all...
To: aristeides
you didn't address that to me, but i was tempted to ask (rhetorically i suppose)
just what it is that makes people either not search, or not care that there are
already x number of threads going on a given topic ?
sheeesh ...

You know my mother used to love true crime books because she was fascinated about the killer's psychotic minds and how they got away with it before they got caught. I guess I inherited her curiosity. She loved all true crime stuff. She always could figure out things before they happened. She should have been a detective she would have made a good one. I never read that book but I will. This stuff is horrible but fascinating.

I read alot of those books too. :) Why is there so many threads about the sniper today? I can't keep up. Thank goodness for you guys, at least you've made some sense of the latest serving of Moose.

Oh wow, that helps and thank you very much.

the smartest dog I've ever had.A pug??? Have you had any other types of dogs?
Little Bear, whom we love deeply, is as thick as a brick; Bubba and Brazen are not much sharper. We had a chow chow and the difference between pug smarts and chow smarts was amazing.
Here's a quick acid test for telling how smart your dog is.
1. Close your fingers like you would if you were holding a piece of candy.
2. Bring your fingers to your mouth and make eating/chewing sounds.
Smart dogs will smell your hand, realize there is no treat and lose interest. Poor, Little Bear started licking my clean and empty fingers.
Try it with your pugs and see if they how they do. Since you've nicknamed one "Ricky Retardo," I can only imagine that they'll fare as well as mine. BTW, my husband says "Moose won't pass this test."
Let me know how it turns out.
