For more on this issue, see my account of an anti-Coastal Commission meeting in Malibu. My piece shows the side of the little guy.
Harris, the coastal act co-author, said she has seen Nichols remind commissioners, "I control your budget," when the commission seemed poised to defy the administration on an issue. Nichols said she was making a fiscal point, not trying to intimidate the commission. What's the difference between "making a fiscal point" and intimidating the commissioners? None, I'd say.
The whole way the Coastal Commission is run looks like a nasty shakedown to me, whether deliberate or not.
I'm passionate about this issue because I have a dream of buying a small lot in Malibu someday and building a house - and I know I'm highly unlikely to have great political influence.

Well you never know when your Video Camera might catch something that a powerful politican might want hidden and pay handsomely to you with some governmental favor!
