A cat saved its family by raising the alarm after it touched off a fire, German police said on Monday.
Mimi the black-and-white cat was playing in the family kitchen in the northwest town of Luedenhausen when a misstep switched on an electric oven, which ignited papers stacked next to it.
But Mimi then awoke the family by miaowing loudly and pushing heavy objects on the floor.
"Mimi saved the family. There would have been a major fire had she not raised the alarm," a police spokesman said.

Mimi is the Kitty Heroine of the Year. She gave up one of her nine lives to save her family.

"Mimi saved the family. There would have been a major fire had she not raised the alarm," a police spokesman said. Yeah but Mimi also started the fire in the first place. If the cat had not been carelessly playing around the oven there would have been no fire at all. I think the cat did it on purpose so she could get attention and be praised as a hero. Cats are evil!

Cats are definitely evil, and I love them for it, but leaving newspapers near a (gas??) stove is asking for the darwin award.

Oh yes I'm sure Mimi intentionally started the fire, only to be smart enough to set off the alarm.

I guess this family did not have the proper equipment for Mimi's care....

Given the account of this cat's deeds, there is no doubt in my mind that she is a Democ(r)at. It's the M.O. of liberals and socialists everywhere. Think about it.....

Mimi would be looking for a new home today, were she one of our cats. We did have one that figured out how to walk on the remote control and turn on the TV. Three nights of the wife and I being jolted awake and doing a running two person bounding overwatch to the living room (fully armed and completely naked) caused us to learn to put the remote up where the cat couldn't get to it.
