LOL!!!!!
Hubby and I dated for almost two years before he popped the question (and no, we didn't live together first--yuck.....)
I mentally had had the "two year rule" in mind: If the guy you're seriously dating can't commit to marriage after two years, that IS your answer--he ISN'T "The One".) I had read a great book called "Call It Love or Call It Quits" and was determined to not be "engaged" (without a ring or a date) for five years, etc.
After proper coaching by hubby's two sisters on the "perfect engagement ring," he proposed. He barely made it under the wire on the "two year rule"--LOL. We've been happy as hogs in mud for seven years now.
I am simultaneously happy for the both of you, and quite envious. I was always the odd one out in My youth. The one-night stand never held any appeal for Me: a long-term relationship leading to marriage was always My preference. All the girls I knew back then however, were more interested in chasing the 'hunks' (or preferably a doctor/lawyer/rich guy).
Now, however, I see the consequences of their decisions -and now they are pointedly hinting about their interests in Me. I, however, am determined to find a woman of higher quality to settle down with.
Would that I be as fortunate as you two someday.
