Most illegal immigrants resort to using calling cards to call their homeland and usually early in the morning or real late at night depending on the time change of their country to the U.S..

Most labor workers work 12-14 hour days. It is not pointless. They might not be able to get intouch with them at any other time. There usually is a round about time they catch up with family or needs before a long work day and most businesses close by the end of their work day. It is far from pointless.

Not to jump on you at all there sorry. I live near and around a big mexican and guat population. They never have social security cards and always pay for everything in cash and use phone cards. They usually get them at the same gas stations or convenience stores and the same pay phones.
