I wrote an e-mail to the Editor of the Journal-Sentinel this morning, asking why the paper has not covered this. Here is the reply I just received:

"WTMJ-TV broke the story last night. We had a short story this morning after we heard about it on the news at 10 p.m. With more time to report the story today, we will now have a longer story in Thursday's newspaper.

As whether our news coverage supports Jim Doyle, let me make a couple of points:

1) The Journal Sentinel broke the story last June that Doyle picked fiveof the 12 charitable groups that received grants $6.3 million lawsuit settlement with vitamin manufactures instead of relying on the advisory committee he established to make selections. Individuals connected to at least six of the groups chosen made contributions to Doyle's campaign for governor according to our story.
2) I heard from many readers this morning who said the gront page today completely changed places with our editorial page because we are trying to sell papers to people in favor for McCallum. They said taking the empty accusation of a "desperate" politician and putting it on the front page as news was "pathetic."

I would humbly submit that one's view of the Journal Sentinel governor's race coverage is colored by the candidate he or she supports.

Thank you for taking the time to write us.

Sincerely,
Marty Kaiser

Write Marty Kaiser back & tell him he's full of CRAP!!

There is absolutely NOTHING new about the Retarded Bingo Scandal in the online version of tomorrow's paper.

Instead, there is a article that intentionally creates the impression that McCallum is (unfairly) whining that Doyle should be investigated for the same kind of campaign law violations as the Senate & Assembly caucus "scandal."

Way to go, Marty!! You turned a news item about Doyle's lawbreaking into McCallum mudslinging and turned a criminal into a victim.

Excerpts from today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story:
However, Thad Nation, spokesman for the state Democratic Party, said, "We haven't seen any evidence that anything illegal was done."

Kenosha County District Attorney Robert Jambois said Wednesday he would investigate and hoped to have a decision on whether to issue charges by the end of this week. Because he has publicly endorsed (Democrat Attorney General Jim) Doyle for governor, Jambois said he had asked Robert Flancher, the Republican district attorney of Racine County, to review evidence and help Jambois decide whether charges were warranted.

(State GOP chair Rick) Graber said Jambois should excuse himself from any involvement in the case because he's listed as a member of Doyle's campaign steering committee and because Jambois' wife has donated $540 to Doyle since 1998....

Hint to Thad; watch the tape.

Also, it's interesting how (a) the Journtinel doesn't mention that Jambois is a Democrat, though they mention the fact that the Racine County DA that is helping Jambois investigate is a Pubbie and (b) attribute Jambois' presence on Doyle's campaign steering committee AND Mrs. Jambois' donation record to GOP chair Rick Graber.
