The Islamic world is engaged in a cultural war with the West and the worst is still to come, Italian author Oriana Fallaci told a receptive Washington audience last night.

Spinning off a long list of Islamic countries, she told a group of about 80 people: "The hate for the West swells like a fire fed by the wind.

A partisan in the Italian resistance in World War II and a lifelong leftist, she once became so disgusted while interviewing Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini that she ripped off her head scarf and threw it in his face.

Wonder what the leftists of today would do when faced with a Mussolini? Oh wait.....they have Saddam and we already know what they would do.

I am not a good enough FReeper to link her long and extremely informative words which she published last year as her "out of retirement" responce to 9/11.

I hope someone else will.I was very impressed.

...the only difference between "moderate Islam" and "radical Islam" is the length of their beards.

LOL, but sadly true.

"death threats were issued against her and her attorney as a result of her latest book"

I guess she must have said something about Islam's being violent instead of a religion of peace and love.

"War you wanted, war you want? Good. As far as I am concerned, war it is and war it will be. Until the last breath," she writes.

Wow, I couldn't have said it better myself. Between Miss Fallaci and Christopher Hitchens, there is hope after all for the European leftist.

"calling Islam the 'dumbest religion.'"

Well I guess he can expect a fatwa! Don't make any long range plans, Michel.

As for the French, they'd better enjoy the coutouries while the can. Soon they'll be showing only burqas.

The French women had better spend some time in the Notre Dame. When it becomes a mosque, they'll no longer be allowed inside.

And spend some time in the Louvre. All those statues will be blown up before you know it.

As for the Riviera, the Moulin Rouge, the Follies Bergere, and all that wine--forget it!

How did she get out of Iran alive, after that?

The difference between "moderate Islam" and "radical Islam" is the difference between Mecca-mode and Medina-mode. The goal is the same, and they can shift from one mode to another without blinking an eye.

Unrepentant, Miss Fallaci calls the downing of the Twin Towers an act of cultural war and says the superior Western civilization must stand up and defeat Islam.

"War you wanted, war you want? Good. As far as I am concerned, war it is and war it will be. Until the last breath," she writes.

We need more voices like this. This thing won't be over until we've inflicted some serious pain on these muslim monkeys and, from where I'm standing, that still seems a long way off. We had to kill five million Germans to put a stop to their nonsense, and there are at least ten times as many muslies in the world today as there were Germans in 1945. I'm figuring we need to kill something like fifty million of these animals before they give it up and civilized people can get on with their lives in peace. Technically, that's pretty easy, but right now, we're not even angry yet. I wish Bush would just cut to the chase and nuke'm now.

Sometimes it taks a major clarifying event to adjust an individual's politics to reality.

Miss Fallaci was a Leftist for most of her adult years. According to Leftist doctrine, the Muslims are part of the victim community of the world, oppressed by us Westerners even if we didn't know we were doing it, and so we owed them. It was our duty to open our arms to them, to transfer wealth and technology to them, and to refrain from criticizing the barbarisms they practiced, as these were only responses to our own hegemonic brutalities against them.

Time was, a lot of people believed that. Time was.

Black Tuesday and the response of the Islamic world to it triggered an intellectual and emotional upheaval in the West. It was not possible to believe in the inherent goodness of people who celebrated the atrocities at the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. It was not possible to believe that they were animated by anything like a thirst for justice when they defended those who had sent so many innocent people to fiery deaths. It was not possible to accept their claims of victimization when their governments uniformly refused to cooperate in bringing the organizers of the outrage to justice.

Thus, America learned what it had steadfastly refused to recognize in the decades before.

Miss Fallaci's clarifying event appears to have been the Muslim tide into Italy, her country. The progressive vulgarization and brutalization of life there has reached her in a way that even Black Tuesday might not have done. Nevertheless! Late is better than never, and hers is one of the most powerful voices in European journalism.

A final thought: The reason so many Muslims, who are hostile to Western culture and have nothing to offer to it but savagery and hatred, have arrived in our midst is money. There's money to be made in bringing them here -- often provided, directly or indirectly, by governments -- and of course there's money here for them once they arrive. This will not be curtailed in any manner except by shutting off hte money -- dismantling a large portion of our welfare state. By contrast, the Muslim incursion into black America is driven more by Islam's militarism, which meshes well with the victimist mentality and the hatred of Western norms considered "white." This is not too distant an effect from the Middle Eastern hatred of the West, but less materially anchored than the Middle Eastern immigrant influx to Europe and America. These are distinct phenomena, and must be handled separately.

Let the corn be all of one sheaf,
And the grapes be all of one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.
